Re: 55g tank, potential more stocking?

Harlequin Rasboras may be a good dither.
Grow plants that arch over the surface so the fish feel safer.

Re: Tank requirement for 1 guarami plus few neon tetras

You could keep one of the smaller Gouramis such as a dwarf or Honey Gourami in a tank 1' x 1' x 1' (30 cm cube). Add some peaceful fish that thrive in the lower part. Neons could work, but not very many, and, as noted above, they are really a schooling fish. Better if you select a smaller schooling ...

Re: Emergency cycle needed!

Add a product that states it contains Nitrospira species of bacteria. Do not waste money on anything else. Products that contain the right species include Dr. Tim's One and Only, and Tetra Safe Start. When you use the correct products, and the products have been correctly handled (neither overheated...

I think it is better than a blank, white wall, or any cords or tubing that might be behind the tank.

Re: Clowns wasting while still eating, plus other symptoms

Wasting while eating is highly likely internal parasites. This may or may not be accompanied by other issues. Poor buoyancy control can happen with any of several issues, but is not directly linked to internal parasites. Since you saw little change when you fed peas I think there was little constipa...

Re: My loach has stopped eating and has become emaciated and near death.. help ?!

Snails are in intermediate host to some fish parasites. I do not know if this is the case here, but it is one possibility.
Otherwise it might just be a coincidence that the fish got sick right after you added the snails.

Re: My yoyos are dying

With the hint 'Going toward the filter for air' suggests a gill problem. A couple of diseases and parasites can infest the gills. Are the gills red? Is the fish panting? (moving the gills a lot, perhaps gasping with his mouth opening and closing) Other diseases and parasites are possible. Is the fis...

Re: Pool Filter Sand

There is not really just one manufacturer. Go to pool supply stores, or even Home Depot, or to stores that sell bricks, rock, mortar and similar things. Check the labels. You are looking for sand that may be labeled 20 mesh or 30 mesh, or any other grading system that means the sand is in that size ...

Re: So Much For the Fishless Cycle

Several rinsings with the water as aggressive as you can manage is a good start. You can try this with the sand, too. Aim the water stream into the sand, and stir it well by hand. The friction of sand particles rubbing against each other should help to break loose the surfactants. When you refill I ...

Re: Moving and Quarantine

That sounds like a lot of ammonia. In a 120 that many fish might produce that much in a couple of days.
If the Safe Start is doing its job the ammonia should not show up that high. Just a little bit of color on the test kit is normal.

Re: Mystery kuhli loach illnesses. Please help

If there is room in the tank I think I would add the spider wood without removing their cave. Then lift the material that makes the cave by putting a few pebbles under it. Lift it a little more each week, but do not make it unstable. Eventually remove it. Alternate idea: Remove the current cave just...

Re: Mystery kuhli loach illnesses. Please help

Not all deaths that happen at the same time (or within a short time) are caused by the same thing. Could be coincidence. As for why all or several fish from one purchase die and fish from a different purchase live, all I can offer are some guesses. a) Better bred (less inbreeding) b) Better fry care...

Re: Mystery kuhli loach illnesses. Please help

Both aeromonas and columnaris can cause similar symptoms, the ulcers you are seeing, and can kill the fish. Here are a few comments and some links: Columnaris often starts on the outside of the fish, showing a white or grey clouded area. Often (by no means always) over the dorsal area. This gives th...

Re: How to clean sand substrate ?

Very fine debris does get into the sand. When I vacuum the sand using the techniques I shared above, the water in the bucket is brown tinted, not clear. Also, when I take down a tank that had sand, it can be a really nasty mess. Skimming the surface will indeed pick up all the larger debris and almo...

Re: Did My Fish Get Me Sick

I am with the others: Unless you actually drank the old, dirty water the fish was in, I sure doubt that the upset stomach etc has any connection with the fish. There are several zoonotic disease that people can catch from fish, here is a link to the Center for Disease Control. https://www.cdc.gov/he...
