Re: Levamisole Dosage

Thanks for the advice, I'll try the peas, thanks. Hopefully everyone will eat them!

Was it your experience that the worm paralysis was temporary, so that reingesting the worms would result in reinfection? Or is this just a concern to make sure they don't have to pass the worm a second time?

Re: Levamisole Dosage

Is the fast just so they'll eat the peas?

You mentioned "trial and error", would you be willing to say more about what didn't work?

Levamisole Dosage

Hello all, My quarantine tank has a glowlight tetra with camallanus (or a similar red anal worm). She was a rescue from a neighbor and was in bad shape, the sole survivor out of a small school that had all died a few months before. Very skinny with a tummy bulge, but had a good appetite. We spotted ...

Re: Small clown loach not doing well

prazi is ineffective against most internal parasites while metro is totally ineffective against them. Again, *benzadole or levamisole are the only options Thanks for the information! Do you recommend keeping either or both on hand as a precaution, since they have to be mail ordered? Do they have a ...

Re: Small clown loach not doing well

API General Cure is advertised for wasting diseases and might be easier to find. The active ingredients are aremetronidazole and praziquantel (currently; I think it was something different a few years ago).

Re: Black kuhli loach tunnel system

Well, I banged the tunnel pieces together tightly with a rubber mallet and have gotten them down into the sand in the tank. As you might guess, it was a bit of a pain to get it in. Whatever end I would shove down, the other side would just pop up. Maybe with a helper things would be easier. It's not...

Re: Do black kuhli loaches eat Malaysian Trumpet Snails?

I might have spoken too soon... I just did a water change yesterday, and today suddenly there are good amounts of MTSs again. I'm really glad to see my cleanup crew back at work, but am trying to understand what might have happened. It had been a month since the prior WC but the water parameters wer...

Re: Black kuhli loach tunnel system

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to figure out how to blast water in safely. (Any suggestions?) At least I don't have to worry anymore about whether MTSs will take over the tunnels (it is going into the tank where the snail massacre happened). I wonder whether the new loaches coming in from quaranti...

Re: Black kuhli loach tunnel system

Absent any feedback I'm about to install the tunnel. One addition is that I've added a riser tube and run in an air hose to try and get some gentle water flow. Sort of like you get with a sponge filter. One thing I've run into is that I decided to boil the pieces in clean tap water before installing...

Re: Should i use almond leaves or RO water for clown loach?

The leaves also release tannins which might be the primary benefit rather than GH and KH. Have you thought about trying other kinds of (free) leaves? I've tried oak and poplar with good results. My use was more about providing hiding places though. Oak especially colors the water if that is the goal...

Re: Do black kuhli loaches eat Malaysian Trumpet Snails?

Should I be worried that the MTSs may be rotting in their shells since the kuhlis can only reach so far into the shell? I pulled out a couple big shells and there seems to be quite a bit of snail left inside. Probably not good for water quality...

Re: Do black kuhli loaches eat Malaysian Trumpet Snails?

Just to explain more fully, the shells are not cracked. Somehow the MTSs are being killed and the shells cleaned out from the opening. There seem to be some snail bits deep in the shells that are not being reached, but the snails are definitely being eaten. I can't say for sure that the loaches are ...

Re: Do black kuhli loaches eat Malaysian Trumpet Snails?

I'm 99% convinced that the loaches are eating the snails. Normally a few hours after lights out, the tank would be crawling with hundreds of snails of varying sizes. Just now, I could only find one. This also explains the change in eating habits. In quarantine the loaches were eating sinking pellets...

Do black kuhli loaches eat Malaysian Trumpet Snails?

I recently added some black kuhli loaches (P. oblonga) to my community tank and have started finding empty snail shells on the sand. The shells vary in size up to almost an inch. There haven't been any other changes or additions so the loaches seem likely suspects. I haven't caught them in the act o...

Black kuhli loach tunnel system

Hello all: I've been lurking for a bit and have found a lot of great advice here, but have now de-lurked to ask for advice. I've got 10 black kuhli loaches ( P. oblonga ) that have been in quarantine for about a month. They've been doing well, good appetite, no signs of disease, and seem to be growi...
