Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

Been awhile - I thought I would give an update. We still have three loaches happy and thriving. We are going on one year now without symptoms. I still wonder what the heck happened to the others. Though, I am so thankful our remaining three are heathy and happy. What happened to the others remains a...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

We did the full treatment with erythromycin and there is still is no change in Bruce's eyes. He does appear to be coming out of hiding more often and seems well balanced, but he is skinny and, as I said, his eyes still look as though they are 'covered'.

Not sure where to go from here... :(

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

That med still hasn't arrived, but we are switching gears for now and going to try erythromycin. I was able to get a more decent shot of Bruce tonight:

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

Any updates? Nothing positive, except for that Bruce is still with us - skinny and lethargic, but still here. We are still transitioning the 220 into softened water...not sure if that will do anything, but worth a try. The med still hasn't arrived, which I find odd as I have ordered from amazon sev...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

They are not the best pics of Bruce, but he was way in the back of the tank and I had to zoom in, thus the blurriness. I hope you can at least see the difference in the appearance of the eyes. It is almost like something is covering the eyes.

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

Catching the loaches proved to be a failure. This tank is too tall, wide, and deep to do so without removing all driftwood and uprooting all plants. We are still waiting on the med to arrive via mail. I hate to treat the whole tank, but I am not sure we can catch these guys without causing major dis...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

Thanks mikev, I just ordered it from amazon.

We will try to catch them this weekend. I only have a spare 10g here, I feel like that is too small for them - so I will look for a bigger tank for them today.

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

We have searched everywhere locally for this med, no one has it. The only med we have found is the Panacur from the vet. Should I order something online, or use this stuff? If so, how much do I use in a 220 tank? I apologize, I am at the end of my rope. I would do anything to help my finned-children...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

Please read my original post above, I am only posting this separate for more immediate feedback. Our vet has "Panacure" on hand. Is this similar to the dewormers mentioned, or totally different?

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

Thank you so much for all of the replies. I have had some family issues (still ongoing) and so I have not been diligent with checking the forum. I will admit that I am exhausted, between worrying about my family and worrying about my fish - I am concerned I may have missed something when reading thr...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

When solo was sick, we were doing daily 50% WCs in his 10g hospital tank. When Winnie got sick, we upped the weekly WCs in the 220g to 50%. I am willing to try doing daily 50% WCs in the 220g if there is a chance it may help - I am willing to do just about anything at this point! We always clean fil...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

I would have gotten back sooner, but my dad had an accident and I have been staying in the city with he and mom for the last few weeks (hubby has been caring for the fish). I am home now and back to posting. We lost Winnie, so that is the second loach gone. As of yesterday, a third loach is showing ...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

The part that confuses me is that we currently have 10 tanks running here. No one else is having difficulties. If it were a problem with water, I would think it would influence all, or most, of the fish? Or, might it be specific to bottom dwellers? We do have loaches in another 55g, they are doing w...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

We have the test kit now. We use water straight from the well for WCs, bypassing the water softener - so I assume this is the water we should test, makes sense, yes?

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

We are on a well, so no water company. We are having a full water test done - it is expensive, but I think worth the price. We will submit it tomorrow - hopefully we will have the results in a week or two. I spoke with an lfs owner and he said it might be a parasite living in the sand, and suggested...
