When I bought a 60G and converted it, it was covered with gunk. I filled it with water, dumped a gallon of vinegar in, and let it soak overnight. The gunk washed right off. Otherwise the advice of just running a LOT of water through it sounds good. Most saltwater pathogens are killed by the freshwat...

My understanding is that new copper plumbing might be an issue. The inside of the pipe hasn't had a chance to get that green coating yet, so it's leaching a lot of copper and other things into the water.

Please let us know if you figure out what happened.
I'm always interested in increasing the reliablity of my setup, and I'd think that many of the rest would be also.

Our thoughts are with you.

Any particular brands or pumps you would consider 'high-efficiency'?

I'm wondering if the 6 Danner Mag pumps I have are contributing to my higher than expected power bill. ( lets see, pumps, lights, heaters, what else in the house uses power? )

Are there any sharp points/rocks/decorations etc in the tank that they might be hurting themselfs on?

Could they be jamming themselfs into rocky hiding places so hard that they're scraping their heads?

What had changed in the tank about the time this started?

Do you realize how large those Balas are going to become? They're going to outgrow your tanks eventually.

I've never found any feeders that work well for flake. I only automatically feed crisps/granular/pellets. Forget the ones that spin slowly twice a day. The food gets wet and caked during the period of time while the feed hole is pointing down. If you get one that spins around, you want it to spin al...

picts of latest tank - are these Dario loaches or what?

Despite being the first large tank I purchased, this odd shaped ( 54” x 33” x 24” ) tank has ended up being the last tank I actually get running. This is it. No more tanks. I’ve run out of room! The main delay was getting around to polishing the scratches out from the plexi. It’s turned out ok, but ...

I'll see if I can get some shots this weekend of my Kubs and "Dario"s.

They're about the same size and look nothing alike so I don't see how they could both be Kubs.

In that first photo, could the guy on the far right be a dario? It looks exactly like what I purchased as dario loaches. They're definitely NOT kubotias. The kubs have a yellow tinge to them and the darios are very white. The confusing thing is my darios look nothing like the ID photos on loaches.co...

low grade ick infestation??

Can you have a low grade ick infestation?

i.e.

) fish only occasionally doing flashes
) no white spots on fish

no visible signs

but it’s there and weakening the fish so that they die of OTHER opportunistic diseases.

I've had some unexplained deaths.

I think one of the main things is regardless of what you get or where you get it, you HAVE TO RINCE IT OUT. It's going to have crud in it you won't want in the tank. What I've found works best is to get a bucket and fill it half full with sand. I then use a hose to fill the bucket with water. The fl...

You'd think I would have learned by now. I also fell into this trap about 3 weeks ago. A tank of 'baby clown loaches' for $2.99usd. <1" Oh they're the cutest little clowns! :) It was almost empty, don't know how many they had started out. I said I'll take the tank. Fortunately there were only 8 in t...
