Re: Copper or betel nut safe for sewellia?

I had 3 assassin snails in the old snail tank and they did seem to kill a lot of the tiny snails but there were still so many more. I can't imagine how many assassins it would take to control the tiny pests. I've put the assassins in the new tank and I hope they find any more snails that show up. I ...

Re: Copper or betel nut safe for sewellia?

Thank you for the reply but as it says in my post, I wasn't feeding anything at all. No food. And the snails multiplied horrendously. I only started feeding when my fish looked thin. My options are to allow the snails to multiply in the new tank and wait for the sewellia to die off or to try a medic...

Copper or betel nut safe for sewellia?

I posted here 4 months ago that I was starting to see tiny ramshorn snails in my sewellia tank. I tried picking them out by hand, trapping them, baiting them with vegetables, nothing decreased their numbers and in fact there are hundreds, maybe thousands of them in my tank covering the walls and the...

Re: Sewellia for sale but not lineolata?

Thanks for the info! Is there someplace with clear pictures of the different Sewellia species?

Re: Sewellia for sale but not lineolata?

Would it be ok to mix this fish with my S. lineolata? Or should it be kept separate to prevent inter breeding?

Snails in hillstream loach tank?

I added a plant to my Sewellia tank and it must have had snail eggs on it because now I'm squishing several tiny snails every few days. My questions: - Are snails are bad for Sewellia tanks? They eat algae so there is less aufwuchs available for the Sewellia, correct? - How can I get rid of these sn...

Re: Normal Sewellia behavior?

That’s terrific! Do you have a picture of your tank? What kind of substrate do you use?

Thanks for reassuring me. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. I actually think the behavior is adorable. 😄

Normal Sewellia behavior?

I have 6 Sewellia lineolata in a hillstream tank and they seem to be doing great. I'm amazed at how active they are and at how much they glide around the tank instead of crawling around on the rocks - they're so cool! Recently I've been noticing a funny little behavior where they sort of jump up a l...

Re: Quarantine for hillstream loaches

That's a good idea - I can put a 24/7 light on the outdoor tub and still get sunlight during daylight hours. I put a big anubias coffeefolia into the quarantine tank yesterday. It had brown algae all over it's leaves and today it's almost completely clean! Every leaf! I'll try to hold out for 4 week...

Re: Quarantine for hillstream loaches

Great info. I'm so anxious to have this quarantine period over! I put a tub of water outdoors in the sun with some rocks in it so I can rotate rocks through the quarantine tank but I don't know how fast algae will grow out there. The temps are in the 60's here now and the days are getting shorter. D...

Re: Quarantine for hillstream loaches

Yes, zucchini - I'd forgotten about that and sticking food in it is a great idea. I'll cut back on the wafers. I fed 2 because I wasn't sure they knew it was there and I put them in different parts of the tank so they had a better chance of running across them. If I put in a little tray for feeding ...

Re: Quarantine for hillstream loaches

I have a few small rocks in the tank for them to hide under. I spend time every day observing them - it's challenging to find them all! And they hide on the side of the powerhead and filter where I can see them through the glass.

Thanks for all the help!
