Re: A Guide to Identifying Eel Kuhli Loaches
Those are very nice comparisons of the non-striped pangios. You have great pics with good explanations of the differences from various sources. I've only kept p. semicincta & P. oblonga...so far ;) This site used to link to the loach species index https://www.loaches.com/species-index for all loache...

Re: Any idea?
I have not had that experience but I have read of others with similar loach behavior. Always with small loaches introduced to larger. It seems the small just can't get enough contact with the larger loach. Not just with clowns as I recall. I forget what it was called, ghosting or shadowing or less l...

Re: World's oldest Clown Loaches reach 30 years of age.
Happy Birthday & Happy New Year to Athina & all your clowns. 30 years is a major achievement no matter the fish or species...but of course, we all love your clowns. I always think it's cute that, like horses, your loaches have the same "birthday" of Jan. 1.
Best wishes!

Re: How much to feed please?
timothy, that's good advice to not over or under feed. My sewellia have had the smallest fry I've ever seen lately! I'm chuffed! The thing I like about Repashy Soilent Green is that it holds together for 24 hours or so before breaking down into dust. But the "dust" is what the grazers & their fry li...

Re: Clown loaches, confidence and decor ......
Last time I had clowns, their tank had "high shade" caves. Mine did not like to cram all together, rather 1 or maybe 2 in each. The caves were rock +/or wood but more spacious than some arrangements I've seen. While the tank lights were on they liked their eyes in shadow even if half a loach was out...

Re: clown loach with odd marking
I agree with redshark. I vastly prefer "natural stripes" on my clown loaches too. I will always reject "oddball" clowns when buying them. They can be attractive in their own way...but that's not my way. I want my fish to look like they do in the wild...not like inbred hormone treated oddities. To ea...

Re: How much to feed please?
My sewellia have bred a few times (once/year or so) so I have a few more loaches without any effort on my part :) The sewellia fry seem to find enough algae/auf wuchs to grow fairly slowly. I also keep sponges over my filter intakes. That keeps eggs & fry from getting sucked up & provides an extra g...

Re: Poor appetite help
That's great you found an easy to feed food for your clowns. What brand is it? A food greeting & frenzy is always fun!
It can be fun to offer a special food treat sometimes. I do it a couple hours before a big water change but not often anymore, too messy.

Re: My Dojo is not well
We need some more info to help. What size tank? What other fish & sizes? How often & how much water do you change? How long have you kept this loach? Do you have other Dojos with it? I'm sure I & others will have more questions soon. Do you test your tank's parameters? What are they & how often do y...

Re: How many is too many ?
Plants use nitrate, so given enough plants, nitrate can be low or even 0... If you use an API test kit you might see low #s. It depends on the plants & how fast they grow. Stem plants grow much faster than ferns + mosses...

Re: How many is too many ?
I have a lot plants in my tanks too. I rarely test them any more but I see 0 nitrate often too. Sometimes with lesser water changes (vacations etc) I have tested as much as 5ppm. That is high for my tanks & a bunch of plants. I used to change more water when I had more fish & less plants. Now I don'...

Re: How many is too many ?
Well, I have a 4ft 55g US standard sewellia lineolata tank. Mine breed & there are 2 or 3 survivors at most each year (I do nothing to help). I used to have stiphodon gobiesof a few species & some Vietnamese whiteclouds with them. All but 1 goby have died out over 12 years. I have 2 HOB filters rate...

Re: Poor appetite help
Well, sometimes there's no accounting for tastes in people or in clown loaches, LOL. I would maybe try once more with the mussels but for a shorter time frame before you remove it...I like that you keep your clowns a tiny bit cool but that can have an effect too. Just another area you might tweek......

Re: Poor appetite help
I saw there were cysts on the clown loach gall bladders in the study. I didn't see if it said how many fish showed them or how many in any 1 loach. I wonder if that may be a part of "skinny" disease & why some diverse treatments seem to help sometimes but not consistantly. Wormers, antibiotics & eve...
