Re: Panda Garras and Water Conditions

My shoal of panda garras have had the temps go up to 30C in summer. They were far less affected than other loaches. Their colors do fade a bit but they do not seem ill-affected after 3 summers. I did have one of of the group of 8 die one summer which I thought could have been attributed to high temp...

Re: Clown Loaches now 27 years old

Well done for caring for that loach for THAT long.
If you don't mind me asking, why has it only remained 6" after so many years? I was under the impression they grew slowly but kept on growing.

Here's hoping my guys last as long as Obo.

Re: Why do you like loaches?

All fish have adaptations and "cool" aspects. Could be size, fins or color. But when it comes to loaches and gobies, I feel someone spent a bit more time making them just a little more interesting in terms of physiology and behavior. From social dynamics and hierarchies, to feeding in shoals and pla...

Re: Sewellia sp. Spotted Male/Female?

I would say it looks female from the pics. The pectoral fins don't form enough of a "shoulder".
You can also see from this guide that it looks more like a female too.

Re: Target feeding dwarf chain loaches

I use a clear plastic pipe usually used in overhead filters. I have cut a length that allows the pipe to reach the substrate and stick out the water a little. When I feed, I place the tube in the bowl on the substate and drop the food down. Once it is in the bowl, I remove the pipe and fish feed. In...

Loach ID Pls

Bought 4 hillstream loaches yesterday. They were all labelled as S. lineolata. After observing the tank for a while I discovered the tank had 3 types of loaches. S. lineolata, Sewellia sp. "spotted" and an unknown loach. I bought 3 spotted and the unknown. Does anyone have an ID? I am struggling. In...

Re: Chain loach fighting

It sounds like they are establishing a pecking order. Especially if it's around dinner time. Provide safe places to hide for all fish, at least one per fish, to allow them to retreat and repose. Also scatter these to allow fish to distance themselves from each other. It should settler down soon enou...

Re: Loach behavior

An active fish, especially loaches. Is usually the sign of a happy fish. Keep an eye on ammonia and other parameters. If he is eating well and swimming around, without knowing anything else about your tank, should be a sign things are OK.

Re: Weird red algea?

If this is still relevant or will help someone reading this now, the algae grows according to your lighting.
Certain algae types (colors) will only proliferate given certain nm outputs from lighting.
