Modesta complex article

I am currently working on a review of botiid fish from the Modesta complex (Y. modesta, lecontei, caudipunctata, morleti, splendida, eos, longidorsalis). It is almost done. However I do not have good photographs of Y. splendida as my camera is not good enough to capture them in the aquarium they are...

Re: Y. splendida - spawning?

Update: The gravid female now appears significantly slimmer and the "shimmying" behavior I observed when I uploaded the first post a few days ago, has stopped. It is difficult to tell whether she has laid eggs or not as it is a large aquarium and any eggs that may have been laid have probably been e...

B. striata - officially endangered

Very sad, this used to be a readily available species, I even wrote an article about this species in TFH at one point.

Y. splendida - spawning?

Hello everyone, I used to be a frequent poster here but, but no longer, no time! Anyway, I have been keeping a shoal of about 6 Y. splendida (not sure entirely of the number, keep forgetting how many I originally bought, but at least 6 are present for observation at any given time) for a few years n...

Re: Emperor Botia

This post is directed at no one in particular but this type of confusion is exactly the reason why I have grown so skeptical regarding taxonomy in general. Who is to say one group of fish is to be considered part of one species or two separate species? Regional distribution of different populations ...

Re: Botia kubotai actually Botia rostrata

Yes true, but my concern is that the claims made in Kottelat's paper seem to be reaching. I have a hard time following his argument for why they should be separate species when regional variations could produce morphs with the same degree of variation. I mean look at the variability in fin rays and ...

Botia kubotai actually Botia rostrata

I remember there being an argument a while ago when B. kubotai first came out whether its actually a morph of B. rostrata or not? Perhaps a regional variation?

How has this been resolved?

Re: New Loach, what to get?

my advice would be to diversify your porfolio and get a few of each of the following:

1. B. striata
2. B. dario
3. B. kubotai
4. B. rostrata
5. Y. sidthimunki

Re: moving coast to coast

Hi Nancy, If you are interested Uncle Ned has some Y. caudipunctata in listed as "speckle-tailed loach" I havent seen them but he said they look young, silvery gray, with a yellow dorsal and caudal fin with spots on both fins. $10 each if you are interested. I would take them but I am not sure young...

Re: Y. splendida shoal

Sorry for the delay, The splendida are doing great. I forget when exactly I bought them but I have a nice group of what I think is 10 specimens in a 90 gallon tank....as I "think" because I only see 6 at a time but know for sure there is more than that, the others are more docile. They seem to get o...

Yasuhikotakia longidorsalis

Does anyone know if Y. longidorsalis have entered the aquarium trade? Have been on the look out for these for quite some time.

Hi guys, I was in the shop when Ned had them in, and I believe they were the real deal.....they were also huge! a good ft long, beautiful specimens, I bought a couple from him a few years prior to that from him, fantastic fish... they were very expensive though, about $100 per fish, maybe even a lit...
