Hello all, long time no see :( Just thought I would stop in and say the reason I havent been online in forever is that shortly after my last posts (spring/ 08) we packed up and moved. I didnt even have the behemoth fully up and running and had to tear it all down. Moving the tank was no easy chore. ...

Thanks all :) palaeodave - I do believe these are about the best fish close ups I have taken so it might sound weird that I am not happy with the camera but I do think my camera is not as sharp as it should be. Some other S5 photos I have seen and actually S3 for that matter are better. But I am hap...

   Whoa! So .. what's your secret? Super-glue? Taser? -Connor LOL! My secret... well I wish I had one. Since I dont, I've probably wasted several hours time over the last couple months taking pic after pic of blurry clowns darting about. Usually, later in the evening,...

Thanks :)

Bully, FWIW I've never seen them deployed by the striatas, but yeah you can see it very clearly in the close up of the eye. I have seen the spine out on a clown once, maybe I spooked him/her walking up to the tank, IDK, but he was just sitting there chilling. Wish I had my camera in hand.

Clown close ups

I decided to divide my post up into too to avoid too much lag in loading a bunch of pics, so here are the clown pics: http://tristan.homelinux.net/fish/loaches/clown1_800.JPG http://tristan.homelinux.net/fish/loaches/clown2_800.JPG http://tristan.homelinux.net/fish/loaches/clown3_800.JPG http://tris...

Striata close ups

I've gone through and picked out some of the better pics of my loaches that I've taken with my new canon S5 over the last month. I am still struggling to get good pics with it, and limited in my equipment currently, but these are the best so far. Still also thinking about just giving in a getting a ...

I've not had kubs before but the talk on striata surprises me. I'd call them the most peaceful loach Ive kept to be honest. Pretty much everyone else, clowns, yoyo, skunks, have shown more aggression (not that its much) but I've not personally seen my striata show any aggression at all. But every ta...

I am on goldfishparadise, I've often debated in posting something about the hilly tankmates, but there hasnt been much talk about them in the last couple years. They have a sticky on hillstreams at http://www.goldfishparadise.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=322&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 and ...

You could get the maxi jet, and then one of the maxi jet mod kits like the Sure Flow (1600/2100GPH) and then compare yourself. The Sure Flow mod kit will only set you back like $15 plus shipping if you shop around (plus they also have the magnetic base mod kit too, Sure Grip). But the Sure Flow kit ...

Shrimp seem hit or miss. In the one large display tank at my lfs that his heavily planted they have many shrimp in there, amano shrimp and others, as well as a few clowns (probably for snail control I guess). I also kept some Atyopsis Moluccensis in my loach tank for a while (the common filter shrim...

In columbus the only bigger loaches I've seen are at aquarium adventure and just from memory I'd say they were around the 5" mark, and $50 or more. Personally I buy mine at the sub-2" mark for about $5  but I dont mind the long wait. If I already had some big ones that I was adding to the tank...

Any suggestions for a high volume, at least 1500gph, QUIET pump?? Check my first post. I mention a couple sequence pumps. They are external, shaft driven & air cooled. Very efficient and quiet for the flow. They have a good reputation, and a 3 yr warranty. You will got a lot of flow though, even th...

Well if you must go submersible then your hand are kind of tied. The heat will be dissipated in the tank. So about the only thing you can do is to find a pump thats the most efficient, meaning lowest wattage for the flow you want. If its for in the tank, I'd just look at the high flow powerheads per...

Yeah usually the hand method is good enough. I however opt to use a digital thermometer like the kind you use to poke a roast for cooking. They were on sale for like $3 at the grocery store and I bought two of them, one for cooking and one for aquariums. They are instant read, they only require a fe...

Just so happens I finished my Sure Flow modification to make it more loach friendly. Its in my tank now and seems to be doing well (although I only have it on a MJ 600, have to dig through my junk to find a 900 or 1200). http://tristan.homelinux.net/fish/powerheads/sureflow_mod3_400.JPG http://trist...
