Re: PH Problem (too alkaline) 4 week update

Well, 3 weeks ago I added 4 albino cory's and 4 kuhli. I'm happy to say all 8 newbies as well as my last juli cat and 7 older kuhli seem to be happy and healthy! I removed the big castle and test all the new well water BEFORE adding to the tank. What I have noticed is that the ph levels seem to be M...

Re: PH Problem - stabilized?

Well, I obviously don't know enough about all the chemical science, what it means, how to test or safely alter them. It's very overwhelming. Chemically speaking, I'd like to have natural ways to assist with regulating this well water pH issue and a SIMPLE routine to keep things stable. I don't have ...

Re: PH Problem (too alkaline)

Updating thoughts. I've had the castle in the tank for well over 10 years and it was the first "ornament". I really enjoy it and the pleco and bristlenose spend a lot time on it. Fish are in and out of it all the time and my moss achors to it easily. It provides a full secluded area for any fish loo...

Re: PH Problem (too alkaline) - update

I think I may be on to something based on a lot of folks' communication and thoughts here. PART of the issue may be the off-the-chart pH level, but I agree that there is more. I have slightly lowered my tank temp (from 79/80 to 77/78) and began using 1 gallon jugs of spring water during water change...

Re: PH Problem? (high alkalinity)

Do we feel an 8.2 pH is acceptable for kuhli's to adapt to or survive in? What effect would new carbon filters have on the tank's ecosystem? I've seen conflicting documentation stating "not much" and that water changes are far more effective, but I'm concerned about the well water now, so prepping t...

Re: PH Problem (too alkaline)

Thanks for reaching out. I live in rural eastern Pennsylvania. I'll try to clarify a few points. The TANK has been running for 10 years, the kuhli loaches and juli cats were all well over a year old. I'm not good with keeping track or understanding all the parameter science, so I trust my privately ...

PH Problem (too alkaline)

Hello all, Three months ago I moved from a home with "city" water to a home with well water and two months later began losing my long time kuhlii's (AND my Julii cats) left and right. I've had my 55g tank for well over a decade. With the city water, my tank struggled with excessive nitrite levels, b...
