Thanks for the reply, was curious about the oxygen transfer thing. I asked a local fish store owner today, he had a similar take, all of his tanks are undergravel. I understand the gravel itself is a good place for the bacteria to grow too, it's an interesting thought if the 'oxygenated' bacteria ...

just to update my scenario, and for any future reference, my clowns and other loaches did fine on the weekend fast.
it actually turned into 4 days as we ran over a bit. i was a bit worried but all fish present and accounted for. I did a decent sized vacuum/water change ...

hi there everyone, haven't posted in a while but ya'll were a great help when starting my loach tank few years ago.
the set-ups: 75g clown loach tank with 5 clowns, size from 4"-6", and a 55g striata/yo-yo/kubotai tank, 3 striata, 2 yo-yo, 5 kubotai and a school of bosemani rainbow fish up top.

the kubotai's seem to be in season. I saw the "kubotai at petsmart" thread going, and have been seeing them mentioned around forums lately also.
petsmart near me had them in as well, and I couldn't resist and picked up a crew of 5. $19 each :shock: not the best deal in the world ...

my clowns were real active past couple days, so I got out the cam and took some pics.
have a look if you'd like, some of my clown gang of 5. they range in size from 3.5" to 4.5"

had one thought on your filtration. you said you use carbon in your filters? If so I'd suggest not using the carbon at all day-to-day. its not needed for healthy filtration, and the space in your filters where the carbon was ...

helodes does look like a possibility, its a juvy loach too so I'm wondering if the chest/belly spots will show up later if it is helodes?
