Re: 8g tank- can 'good' bacteria grow in an underwater filte

Thanks for the reply, was curious about the oxygen transfer thing. I asked a local fish store owner today, he had a similar take, all of his tanks are undergravel. I understand the gravel itself is a good place for the bacteria to grow too, it's an interesting thought if the 'oxygenated' bacteria ar...

8g tank- can 'good' bacteria grow in an underwater filter?

Hi y'all, short background, then a Q. I've been a member a few years, mostly lurk. I've had my clownmob of clown loaches for about 5 years now. Aside from the very unfortunate/strange death of my Big Boy, the other 4 have been doing great, although it took awhile to figure out who was the new sherif...

I did a decent sized vacuum/water change a...

new kubotai loach pics

hi loachlovers :) the kubotai's seem to be in season. I saw the "kubotai at petsmart" thread going, and have been seeing them mentioned around forums lately also. petsmart near me had them in as well, and I couldn't resist and picked up a crew of 5. $19 each  not the best deal in the world I ...

I will add that the alpha of my clown gang of 5 does like to hide in his house alone moreso than any of the others. the 2nd and 3rd in command are next biggest size, and they and the rest of the group are much more active and play together, while alpha does indeed hang out much more often alone. the...

glad they seem to be better poeticpyro :) hope things continue to improve. had one thought on your filtration. you said you use carbon in your filters? If so I'd suggest not using the carbon at all day-to-day. its not needed for healthy filtration, and the space in your filters where the carbon was ...

congrats on the kubotais Xirxes, they are great looking little loaches. :) your thread caught my eye because LFS just got batch of them, said they don't get them very often, and I'm gonna get 3 or 5 myself. they just called out to me, "take me home", so I'm doing a little re-arranging and then going...

helodes does look like a possibility, its a juvy loach too so I'm wondering if the chest/belly spots will show up later if it is helodes?

found this page in the species index:
http://www.loaches.com/species_pages/tiger_botias.html
looks like helodes or hymenophysa maybe?
