Hi, Smudgeman, Mollies are definitely more prolific than Loaches. Although I don't keep Mollies myself, I have a good friend who does, and he keeps Dalmatian Mollies as well as other types. There are usually more Dalmatian fry than any others. It seems that at least once a month, sometimes more, the...

Thanks, Nancy, Yes, it is a very nice piece! It can be so hard to find wood in the shapes you want. As far as I'm aware, it is not Manzanita wood, though it looks similar. Supposedly it comes from coffee trees. I still haven't seen Manzanita wood offered for sale in my area. Saskatchewan is not a go...

The Malaysian Trumpet Snail is a livebearing snail. Becuase of this, they seem to multiply very quickly. Whenever I have added them to a tank, the first ones usually disappear into the substrate, and I wonder what has become of them. Then, two weeks to a month later, there are so many I don't know w...

New Tank Update
This is the tank with wood in. The wood has been stood up on its end and looks much better. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/leafshapedheart/newtankpic1.jpg It has now been decided that the tank will be an Aquarium. It would have been too hard to make into a Paludarium because the canopy does...

Hi, Katy.., Although Dwarf Puffers are small, they need a lot of space. They are messy little guys, and need excellent filtration as well. IMHO a 6-Gallon tank will be inadequate for their needs. For 5 fish something in the neighbourhood of a heavily planted 15-20 Gallon would be better. They are cu...

Why though? Why add salt?....Freshwater fish should be kept in freshwater simple as... I agree with this whole-heartedly, and I'm glad someone has broached this subject because one of the LFS in my area has started on an aggressive campaign to sell aquarium salt.:?::shock: Letters have been written...

Try looking in the archives for a thread by LoachOrgy called "Fiin Rot Help?" (Yes, there are two ii's, this should make it easier for you to find.) I remember this thread from over a year ago and there is some very helpful information on how to reduce TDS. It is very long but there is some excellen...

Hi, Pilze, I haven't had to deal with this problem myself, but there are a number of threads on this site dealing with TDS issues. Try doing a search (found second from the left on the top panel), and simply type TDS into the "Keywords" section. I just did this myself and several pages worth of thre...

Hi, laikinasis, Welcome to Loaches Online! Very nice-looking tank! Love the Vallisneria in the back. In the more distant picture it is impossible to tell there is anything wrong with your Loach. In the closer one, I can see the brown spots you mentioned, but it doesn't look like anything to worry ab...

Hi, Clint:) Thanks for the reply. You are right that the name "Java Wood" is a trade name rather than a type of wood. It is made by Hagen and Exo-Terra. It comes from the rainforest, from coffee trees which are cut down before the plantations are re-planted. The wood would otherwise be burned. Then ...

"Java Wood" For Aquariums?/New Tank Update
Hello.., I am making plans of starting up a new tank. I bought it a few days back and have yet to decide exactly what to do with it. The dimensions are ideal; 29.5" Long x 17.5" Deep x 17.5" Tall, about 40 Gallons. I am now torn between making it into either an aquarium or a paludarium, but either w...

Glad to hear everything is going better. I have one Dojo who has the "floating" problem as well. She seems to have been damaged at some point on her back end. The scales on this area seem irregular and scarred as though they have healed imperfectly. Although I have several Weather Loaches, they are ...
