Re: Starving hillstreams!

I think your fish could have intestinal flagellates.
It is very difficult to cure infected fish.
Even if he eats enough, he becomes progressively thinner.

Iris has had the same problem.
I hope it helps you a bit.

Could a Gastro's mouth open far enough and would it even be able to damage the other one?
Gastros are very peaceful, they would never hurt others.
Abrasions are the worst injuries I've seen so far.

Re: My New Sewellia

You have luck. The first one is a S. lineolata male and the second a female. Your Gastromyzon are: G.zebrinus, G.scitulus, and G.ctenocephalus Observe your fish good and look if they eat. When they eat and not always hidden, everything is in order. When you look for some inspiration for your tank se...

Yes this is a normal behavior when they come in a new environment.
They have to recreate the social order.

Re: Sewellia speciosa

Thanks !
This species is very rare to find in retail. No, the different species do not cross each other.
You can keep similar species together. Larger Balitorids could be very territorial.
If you makes sure they get enough to eat and have enough space to avoid you will not have problems.

Sewellia speciosa

Some pictures of my small S. speciosa group. I have them now about one year and they doing very well. The behavior is similar to S. lineolata, they are also easy to breed. Pictures of the spawning and the jungsters coming soon. Female http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/7569/img2192z.jpg http://img81...

Re: Hillstream loach id?

In the shop, they often look very pale.
But when they settle in they show their full beauty.
Sewellia species like S. lineolata, S. speciosa or S.sp. spotted are more colorful.

Re: Lump on gastromyzon borneo sucker - injury, newly purcha

He Matt, pictures of the bump and the injury could be very useful! I would always first put new hillstreams into a quarantine tank for a month. Observe your fish good and look if they eat. When they graze constantly, everything is in order. If the patches get bigger you have a big problem! It could ...

Hi Rychek,
you are right they are S. lineolata.
At all three pictures you can see a male.
I hope you have enough stones in the tank and enough flow?
