Re: 5 CL'S in 4ft 95 gallon tank !?

In a smaller tank than recommended they will inevitably be stunted. How much stunting to expect and how soon stunting starts is not known exactly. There is no study showing this because of the timescales involved. You are basically keeping the wrong species for the tank you are prepared to provide. ...

Re: Clown Loach in 105 Gallon

My approach has been to keep the fish species I like the best and try to avoid compromises. Therefore, in a tank similar to yours ? 110 us gal I have my six Clown Loaches and only have six Congo Tetras for dither duties and a Bristlenose for algae-cleaning duties. According to Aquadvisor I would be ...

Re: Oldest Clown Loach now 25 years old.

Thanks NancyD. I just measured the tank nitrates and they are back down to 5ppm so I am less concerned with reducing nitrates but will continue to monitor.

Re: Oldest Clown Loach now 25 years old.

Thanks Basil its great to receive such a positive reply. I just took another photo. Here are my two girls. Tiama (right) is joined this time by Anthia (left) who is 11.5" total length. Anthia has an incomplete stripe and her stripes have faded and are dividing into two. She only grew larger than Tia...

Oldest Clown Loach now 25 years old.

Happy New Year to everyone visiting the Loaches Online forum. Amazingly, I still have my six Clown Loaches which are now all 25 years old. I know their age because I purchased them in January 1995 when they were 1 year old. I do not currently know of any older Clown Loaches. No owners have yet been ...

Re: Sand substrate opinions and particle size question

For people worried about the pronouncement on MDF stands, whilst it may seem a little crazy to build them out of this material I have one supporting a 6ft tank that is still going strong after 30 years.

Re: companions/dither fish

Two pieces of advice from me. Firstly, when choosing dithers make sure you consider temperature compatibility. I keep Clown Loaches in a 110 gal and these like warmer temperatures than some dithers. Secondly, when choosing upper level fish realise that even many of these will not prefer to stay batt...

Re: Video—please comment

I watched the video and although I don't know what is going on exactly the Clown Loaches look shockingly thin to my eyes (but maybe mine are obese despite my attempt to control feeding to preserve water quality). They also seem rather weak. My Clown Loaches do not move as gently as that. They are ro...

Re: advice on soft sand

I myself got Silver Sand which is for horticultural use and is lime free. It was inexpensive and it didn't need washing. I believe it to be natural, from rivers and I like the way it looks but I don't grow plants in it so cannot comment on that aspect. I have not needed to try other types so don't k...

My suggestion is to try asking on Monsterfishkeepers.com in the loaches section. Also look on facebook.

Re: Adopting a lonely Yoyo loach

Good job!

I know from my reading that some Older Clown Loaches that have lived alone continue to do so even when young Clown Loaches are introduced.
