yes cut the intake pipe... I have had sand in my fx5 B4 and it prob. isn't good.

it really depends on the loach. But ya it will push the smaller ones away from food and the hiding spot it likes. My mature ones do... but if you have enough caves etc... it shouldn't be a problem. The tank is kinda smallish for histies but I'd go for it. ps- not sure about the gourami- loach compat...

A month ago I witnessed my lone sid and a really small kub battle it out for at least 45 min. I walked into the room and the two were already at it, the sid completely grayed out. I wouldn't recommend "red tail botias" (if they are modesta) with Kubs.
and I'd say that sooner or later the shrimp will be food for the loaches.
