BN Pleco Question

We recently got a bn pleco; smallish - maybe an inch long body. We're wondering how to tell if it's a male or female; and how long it takes for the evidence to show up. It's got two little horns right by its' eyes, but nothing around it's mouth, as of yet. Are those horns indicative of sex?
Thanks!!!

Snails of Doom lol

Wow that sounds hideous the way you had your snails showing up all creepy. Blech! Lol but a funny story none the less :) The loaches (and danios) have some work cut out for them. I'm guessing that there's 1000 or so of the snails in there. So to help them out, I stick the net down into the sub and s...

Snails are good!

Vacuumed the tank this afternoon and grabbed about 10 wee snails, crushed them into snail paste, and tossed it back in the tank. Danios swarmed on them, but some fell to the gravel uneaten. A minute later, the loaches started doing their "I smell food!" dance, and got closer and closer to the pile o...

Maybe it's not ich?!

Ok so no other fish have had any ich symptoms at all this time. The golden dojo still has the spots on her tail. I can't tell if they're the same spots, or different, getting better or worse....my husband looked at him and said "aren't those the same spots he had last time?", so I 'm wondering if th...

That's awesome lol. I might have to get that for christmas :)
Alternatively, I am sure we have plenty of tube like things around, to use like a vacuum for the snails..\

DIY project!

Ok, I need something long to pick up small snails at the bottom of my tank. It's a deep tank. The snails are (biggest) the size of my pinky finger nail. They're mostly smaller than that. If I coudl get some kind of long handled scoop, that would be great, or one of those syringes that do not have ne...

Snail feeding frenzy

Hi, I managed to grab a snail out of the big tank and (cringe) smashed its shell a bit, then tossed it into my Betta's tank. He was fiercely excited, until it hit the bottom lol, and you know what that means...it's no longer food to him. So I fished it out and tossed it in the big tank....the danios...

Hang in there...

and keep us posted when you are up to it. We too had ich tear through our brand new tank. We lost everyone, except for one golden loach. It was almost enough to make me say "no more" and quit. I gave myself a few days and realized that although it was horrid, I do want to keep at it. Now we have ich...

Thanks, I will continue the algae wafers, and try some veggies again. ...can they eat corn?

Any wafer suggestions?

Hi there, Thanks for the food list; there's a ton on there that I haven't tried. I'll try the wafer on cucumber bit and hopefully he'll figure out that they're both food. I'm thinking of trying a different wafer; I've seen "meat" wafers; sinking pellets that are full of protein and not much else. Is...

Mr. Plecostomoose - Feeding Questions

Hi we recently got a bn pleco; he's small yet, maybe two inches (his body). He cleaned our tank up completely within the first five days. Now I am worried that he's not eating the wafers that we give to him and the loaches. He's too shy to come anywhere out in the open mostly, but I've noticed today...

What is killing our loaches?! Bursting lumps, what are they!

Dr. A; What the heck IS that!? Mine did the SAME thing. Had a big lump on it's gill area suddenly one day. Within 24 hours it burst, and he bled out and died! I didn't see it, but my husband did. I'm so sorry you had to experience it as well :(. It sounds awful, horribly painful :( At the time we we...
