It's an impossible situation cause your clown loach is really, really lonely but they grow to over a foot long and get really chunky too.
If you want the best for him maybe look for a public aquarium or zoo or something.

Cobitis loaches

I recently got some Cobitis loaches. Has anyone kept them? I know Rachel O'leary has them in her 'hillstream' tank, but I have no clue why because they are not tropical/subtropical, and don't come from flowing streams at all. They are said to require cold winters if they are to live beyond a couple ...

It can work, if you use no more as 1" for large loaches (clown, weather) and 1/2" for everything smaller as 4".
I still have a planted 100G with mostly sand, not looking forward to replace all that.

I used to love sand too but after having used it for a long time I would strongly advise against it and am never using it again.
It will create anaerobic spots which will harm bottom dwellers, even with rigorous siphoning. The best, and only option is soft rounded gravel 2 to 3mm in size.
