Re: TINTING AQUARIUM BACKGROUND

I can only agree

I got 1 tank painted light - unfortunately. All the others (40) are painted black on 3 sides.

But do remember, paint the outside.

Re: "Suddenly" Aggressive Golden Zebra Loach...Help Please

To me "golden zebra loaches" are botia histrionica, not yoyos (b. almorae). That's the problem with common names such as "golden zebra loach". What could this be? I am Dutch, not a native speaker of English, and I have not a clue what species is involved. On one hand this does nopt matter indeed, a...

Re: "Suddenly" Aggressive Golden Zebra Loach...Help Please

What I think is going on is that the loach really, really disliked the gravel you had. It disliked it so much that is went into what we would call a depression in a human. It could also be that the gravel hurt it and being hurt it went inactive Now the gravel is gone, the natural behaviour returns. ...

Re: Release into pond

You imply this wheatherloach cannot be Misgurnus fossilis, as that species is banned

Following that view, you are right not to put the alternative species in a pond

Re: Release into pond

This year the temperatures are very low. Normally I´d say go and have fun, especially if you transpoort the fish arond 15 hrs (water is warmest then). But this year you might better wait until June A problem is, wheather loaches are not native in the UK, but they could survive there. Therefore posse...

Re: Botias for 85 gallon tank

I think both options are good ones, however, if it were my tank, I wouold try to change the titteya for a local alternative. But, that is just my taste, not a real comment.

Re: Aquaclear 50 (402) Powerhead, Do I need the bubbles?

On a Dutch forum, which does not exist anymore, a member once calculated the effects of bubbles. These do cause movement on the surface, but the thing is, they have gone com 20 or 30 cm through the tank before reaching the surface. Going through the tank, they do give oxygen to the water, and in fac...

Re: 125 gallon not big enough for clowns?

The thing is, clowns can grow to a foot. Now an active fish like a clown would most certainly need space to swim in, and I would never keep such a large, active fish in anyshing smaller than an 8 feet * 3 feet footprinted tank. I don´t know how much gallon that is, but if 2 feet high, this is 1296 l...

Re: What is the difference between Loaches and Gobies ?

Gobies are related to perch, while loaches are related to barbs. That is, they are way different fish But, in some places they arte found together. And in case fish live together in nature, and do not prey on each other, most often thay make ideal tankmates. Problem is, both of gobies and loaches no...

Re: Clown Loach Compatibility

They don't meet any other loaches in nature. On Borneo one can find Pangio, no further loaces, but Pangio prefer other circumstances. Whether they can be combined with otrher loaches? I wonder. After al, they can be agressive amongst themselves, and they are the largest of the Botinae we normally ca...

Re: Yoyo safe Hydra treatment

Unless we are speaking about very small fishes (newly hatched, 3 mm or so), Hydra are harmless and will only steal a little food. Therefore I would do nothing.

I have heard Trichomopodus sumatranus (new genusname, hope I got it right) eat Hydra, but most likely this fish does not fit in your tank.

Re: Horseface loaches and root tabs? And some general questions.

I did not go into the root tablets as I have never used them.

But if you bury them deeply, they will have far less effect on the fish than if shallowly buried.

Re: Horseface loaches and root tabs? And some general questions.

Firstly, 2 is always a bad number, as 2 implies 1 stronger than te other. 3 is better but 4 or more is much better I can´t tell you how fast they are growing, but whether the plants are damaged by them? You could make zo nes with only sand, and others with pebbles, places the loaches will not like t...
