Re: Throw away your canister filters !
Another FX5 vote. I have two which run my system. They are easy to clean (although they don't seem to need it) and have a high flow output too. The valves on them are less fiddly than eheim valves too. They're basically just a big bucket with an external pump which is nice straightforward engineerin...

Re: Clown loach diet advice
I'm not going to profess to knowing the answer to this one but it might help others to know how old they are and to see a list of things you've tried to feed them as they will normally eat all sorts of things

Re: help!!! my neon tetras and clown loach has ick
Glad to hear your fish are okay now Jordan. It's an interesting discussion Kittikat (like the user name BTW). Given your later point that UV can't 'get' everything in the tank I'm not sure how valid. I'd like to point out that my views below are those of a layman but I'm putting them out there becau...

Well you can test the water for underlying quality problems so I'm not sure that stands up as good reasoning. As I understand it the UV kills free swimming white spot critters so must be good. If they can't stay alive once bred they can't attach to a fish.

I rinse my media in old water but that's all. In the case above I was stripping down my old tank now no longer in use

You empty out and clean your (gravel like) filter media into a bucket, only to forget that your bucket full of dirty water actually has loads of filter media in it and you dump it onto your lawn whilst disposing of the water? Took me ages to pick most of it up. Curses.

Why do they do this?
All my loaches are mooching about the tank, nothing unusual there. My biggest loach has (in the last few days) taken to zooming vertically up and down the left and side of the tank, all on his/her own. Doesn't seem anxious in any way. I always wonder if they see their reflection. Can anyone offer an...

Re: clown fish hideing
Might be worth looking him over carefully for whitespot too. If he's always around the filter (and has other hiding options) it may be that he has it.

Buying a new powerhead
I was wondering about this. I'm looking at a Tunze turbelle 6105 which is controllable between 3000 and 13000 litres/hour. My present powerheads are rated at up to 5500 litres/hour and make little impact on the flow in a 6x2x2 as far as clowns are concerned so I thought I'd try something bigger. A f...

Re: Plumbed water feeds for larger tanks
For info I got the unit Graeme suggested and the fish are now much happier after a water change. Great suggestion
