Re: The spawning of Sewellia lineolata
WOuld it possible to do a short video of their spawning? The pictures are amazing! At last I managed a few small videos of the spawning. Unfortunately, there are very short spawning sequences, they can also be much longer. It is interesting that the male in the videos is another which we see on the...

Re: Hillstream loach id?
I think you are right, looks like a Beaufortia kweichowensis.
Once again, an instance of the name chaos in some shops.
Just one example:
A few weeks ago i order Sewellia sp. spotted form a local fish shop and what I got Gastromyzon ctenocephalus

Re: Fish with birthmarks???
Looks like a healthy female.
I also have a G. ctenocephalus of months had these dark spots "birthmarks".
Even more pronounced, by the time they disappeared completely.

The rock back wall is not self made, you can buy it from the company Back to Nature.
It is not very cheap but the hillstream loaches love it!

Re: The spawning of Sewellia lineolata
Thanks for the comments! Have you found any fry? Of course Emma, in the tank are fry in all sizes. Unfortunately, most eggs are eaten by the shrimp, snails and white clouds, but a few always disappear. http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/9909/img2372d.jpg http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/1737/img19...

The spawning of Sewellia lineolata, first pictures
A couple of weeks my S. lineolata spawn again the whole day. So I take the chance and took some pics. First, the male advertises long to the female, after the fins of the female will nibbled. http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/1486/img1836o.jpg http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/959/img1760on.jpg http...

Re: Some pictures of my 500l hillstream tank
Sorry I got you misunderstood, my English is not perfect. :) We have already discussed about it here: http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=21744 Hillstreams in general need a long time to settle. For some it goes very quickly but some take a long time until they eat properly. It surprises m...

Re: Some pictures of my 500l hillstream tank
In this size tank I have absolutely no problems to keep so many different species together. In smaller tanks, it may be more difficult because larger Balitorids like Sewellia could be very territorial. Hypergastromyzon and Gastromyzon species are very clever and know where to find their food. If you...

Re: Share your Loach Movies!
hi Charles, Thanks for the video, which is exactly the same behavior that my S. lineolata showed in the breeding tank. They always spawn in open water and never near the substrate. Meanwhile, I was able to observe the same behavior in my 500 liter tank which also showed Ingo`s S. elongata. They spaw...

Re: Which Hillstreams Breed Most Readily in Capitivity?
Sewellia lineolata is a good choice. Very easy to breed and not very demanding. Sewellia sp. Spotted is also not difficult to breed but he tends to be shy. A small group of at least five pieces is advantageous. S. lineolata youngsters http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/6484/img1413il.jpg http://img4.i...
