As far as sites, www.liveaquaria.com seems to have good selection and helpful articles. Another idea is ask the manager at the LFS if they can special order something for you. I have inquired at two shops and they were both willing to add a special request to their weekly shipment, provided their wh...

OK, that is helpful to know. I have a Penguin 350 HOB which can handle 4 filter cartridges and 2 Bio wheels. I have been using filters from Dr. Smith & Foster which have a carbon insert and a sponge for bacteria. Since I am medicating the tank I took the carbon out, and was wondering if it served a ...

Do you always use a carbon filter?
So I am currently treating for Ich (again) and have removed my carbon filters from my Penguin HOB. It got me to thinking, "Is the carbon filter really necessary, or is it just to "polish" the water to make the water appear super clear?"

Ugh...I just read that whole thread on the planted tank site. I just installed a 200W Stealth Pro. Now I am concerned about melting and exploding. I did notice the directions never say to install a new heater and allow it time to acclimate before powering on, and the directions never say to unplug t...

Huh...so maybe it is just a coincidence. The dearly departed male gourami would almost endlessly bully and chase the female, and on occassion would mix it up with the pleco. The little guy seemed really active, so I was really suprised to see him on the substrate, with his eyes missing. As I said, I...

Clowns in warmer water become more aggressive?
I have been keeping my water temp 76-79F, but now during an Ich treatment I have raised the water temp considerably and it seems that the clowns are very active, and may actually be more aggressive. I've had water at 86-90F, and at day 2 of treatment I found my clowns munching on a fallen tankmate. ...

Ich has a life cycle that is temperature dependent. No medicine, UV, or other treatment will make them go through their life cycle faster except raising the temperature. OK, so the increased temp will accelerate their life cycle that much I got, but does that also mean that once the cist falls off ...
