Red-blue Botia????

A fellow aquarist on a Norwegian forum came across a species that was only labelled red-blue Botia. The body was a deep-red colour and the tailfinn was dark blue/black. Anyone who has any idea what species this might be?

Kind regards

An update

No more dead skunks, and AMPLE clicking when another microscopic portion of mosquitolarvae was fed :D 3 of them even made an apperance outside theyre caves :D Water conditions are very stable (eventhough they are a little bit "off the mark" as far as loaches are concerned..PH=8!) As long as they now...

Ammonia vs Ph 7,8

Hi again! Good news first: no more deaths, and Skunks now coming out and eating a (very microscopic) dose of Red mosquitolarva. However, since I have measurable ammonia in the tank, and PH is stable around 7,8 (KH is 4) doesn`t that create more toxic Ammonia? I`m a bit confused as I have taken up yo...

Hi! I`ll take youre advice and keep KH as stable as possible. But this will keep my PH a bit higher than what is preferred. I guess this is OK? I use Tetra Aquasafe after every water change, eventhough it is said not be necessary in Norway. Nitrites have not been present at any time. I check every d...

Ammonium and other test-results

Hi again! I have tested the tank for ammonium and other things. Here are the results: Temp - 24 PH - approx 7,8 Tetra test shows a little higher than 7,5 but lower than 8 KH - 4 Nitrites - 0 Ammonium: Here I`m a bit uncertain. The test is Red Sea Max it shows a total of 0,25. According to the chart ...

I have quite subdued lighting in this tank. There are some plants in there. I added the KH after the first skunk died, as I figured I needed to raise the PH when I realized the sudden drop. As KH is 3 and PH is 7 in my tap water I have never had the need to adjust this previously. Yet, the second sk...

I measured it now: 3 (this was from a glass which has contained tap water since yesterday evening)

I`ll get the Ammonia test tomorrow. The filter pump was moved up to the surface earlier this evening. Haven`t fed today and wont do so until after testing tomorrow. I`ll keep you posted.

Thanks for the help!

Kind regards

I measured the KH now. Result: 4. I have done a small waterchange earlier today. My tap water is close to perfect: PH 7,0. As i live in Norway there is no problem with chloriine or other water-parameter issues straight from the tap. (one of the few good things about this country... the cleanest wate...

Nitrite is 0,(sorry, I meant Nitrite in my first post) and has been so all the time. I have checked every day since the move. I don`t have an ammonia test, unfortunately. But do you think ammonia might be present with no mesurable No2 in the tank, and two fully cycled filters?

Skunks dying!

Hi! In 24 hours I have lost 1 skunk and one is currently dying. Long story (relatively) short: I transferred all my skunks to their own tank approx 2 weeks ago. (the filters were not new and completely cycled.) Both sick skunks behave the same way. they come out of theyre hiding place into an open p...

What is the big deal? These loaches are apparently commerical available in large numbers. We aren't talking about endagered specics here. I love MY loaches and I would be very sad if I caused their death (to say nothing of what I would do to somebody who intentionally harmed them), but frankly I do...

I'm going to assume you understand I know what stuck is and spare you their recent harrowing near death experiences. So, any advice on gauging the impact of these hopfully never happening again experinces? By all means :D I`m not hinting that you don`t know what stuck is. But it seems to me that yo...

I have to agree with Emma. How do you know the loach is stuck? These creatures can squeze in to holes you wouldn`t think physically possible. However; if they get in, the will most of the time get out :)
