Re: My Sewellia lineolata, sewellia spotted and their FRY
A few months later, and what a difference it makes. The tank is now completely over-run with juveniles and babies. I have been feeding lots and lots, and doing lots of frequent water changes, and yet the algae is still growing. Clearly the fish love it, because they keep spawning and keep growing. E...

Re: Need NON Snail Eating Loach or Botia!!!
Yeah, I caught up with Jodie recently and she showed me some pictures of the Rosy Loaches. Interesting little small things. Although I'm not sure how they fit into my loach keeping, so I probably won't look at getting them. I am on Aquariumlife as well, just not very often. I'm too busy looking afte...

Re: Need NON Snail Eating Loach or Botia!!!
You could get some Upside Down Catfish :-) ... or some corydoras. Otherwise, if the snails are big enough, then dwarf chain loaches (sidthimunki) would probably not be a problem with your snails. But you would still be taking a risk, unless you make sure that the fish are well fed. And I would recom...

Re: Tank just got bigger, help with 1000 litre, a few ?'s
It all depends where you get your fish from. If you get them from a fellow fish keeper from somewhere else in NSW or VIC or ACT, you'll be more able to trust that the fish are all healthy. If you get any fish from a fish store, then they are more likely to be carrying something that you won't want t...

Re: Does this behaviour mean they are happy ?
I've got pangios and other kuhli loaches in a very heavily planted tank. Water quality is absolutely perfect, and all the loaches are well fed and active. I forget how many I have, but there would be close to 10 of them. There is always 2-4 of them cruising around the tank and circling around each o...

Re: Tank just got bigger, help with 1000 litre, a few ?'s
I moved my 8ft tank into my house by myself, but I had it loaded at origin into a big van with help, and I took 2 hours to move it carefully 15 meters from my driveway into my loungeroom. The tank is still sitting empty because I need to stain and waterproof the cabinet. No idea why I didn't pay the...

Re: Juvenile sewellia attacking adult
Since you just moved them to a new tank, I would assume that they are still harrassing each other to work out their terrotories. It sounds very possible that you might not have enough pebbles and rocks and hiding places in the tank. Give your fish more places that they can escape to if they need som...

Re: Health Question - Reticulated Hillstream Loach
t looks normal to me... maybe the white stuff is just a fuller belly? Especially if there is a good coating of brown algae on the glass. It is possible that they weren't feeding very well in the shop, but at your house they have better surfaces with algae, and they are filling up which is expaning t...

Re: Nine newly bred Tiger Hillstream Loaches - help!
I agree with the others. ... just leave them in the tank. To encourage more spawns and more fry, do small water changes every day or two (1-3 buckets, no more than 1/4th the water in the tank). Also, you could feed very small amounts of feed, more frequently during the day (I do this on my tank with...

Re: loach newbie fascinated by hillstream loaches
If you have more than a few aquarium stores near by, then one or more of them should be able to source live black worms for you. Before my collection of gastromyzon died (dragon fly lavae lived unnoticed in the tank for over 2 months) I was feeding them blackworms through a plastic pipette once a we...

Re: My Sewellia lineolata, sewellia spotted and their FRY
Thanks for the spinach suggestion Jim. Well my fry are getting even bigger. I have absolutley no idea how many there are in the tank now, but I haven't noticed too many teeny tiny babies since the juveniles have started getting bigger than 10mm. I'm wondering if the juveniles might be snacking on so...

Re: loach newbie fascinated by hillstream loaches
Blackworms are easy if you wanted to go that way (I am sure there are people who don't). Just find a store who can get some for you, and buy a 10-20ml of them. Then drop them all into the tank. The ones that don't move and don't disappear will be dead, and if the fish don't eat them then you can suc...

Re: Stray Voltage: Grounding Rod or GFCI Experience?
As an alternative power head look into the Koralia product line. More water movement for less electricity. More difficult to add any sort of filtering sponge, though. And it is recommended to have some sort of cage on it.... I lost a dwarf chain loach (sid) on the weekend. It was amongst a dozen or...

Re: loach newbie fascinated by hillstream loaches
I can't see anything wrong with what you have suggested. I would be wanting to ensure that the light of that little tank is bright enough to grow a good layer of algae on the rocks. If possible, maybe see if there is a Daylight 6500k bulb available that would fit into the hood. Flow is good, but not...

My Sewellia lineolata, sewellia spotted and their FRY
Hi all, I've had the gastromyzon species of borneo suckers before, and spent a lot of money on buying lots of them. Unfortunately some of them wouldn't survive long, some died of the patchy disease (I wish I had some antibiotics for them), some wouldn't adapt to feeding properly, and then lastly a d...
