Re: White dot in my loaches eye
Photo is not clear enough, but usually white dot in the eye indicates cataracts. Not entirely curable (just like with humans), often age-related, but things can be done to alleviate the condition. Maybe take a few better photos to make sure and talk to member "Sarcasm Included" on the rainbow-fish.o...

Re: E.kalotaenia fry
30+ (cannot get the exact count -- move too much), looking more like the adults now, active and hungry all the time. Strangely, uneven growth: some are still under 15mm, some are 20mm+ and possibly one or two are close to 1". This is a bit strange.... they are fed enough and the space should be suff...

Re: Ich: Treating Tank w/ Nat Geo Herbal Ich Relief
Not quite. Some of the meds do kill ich in all stages, these include quinine and flubendazole. Already mentioned Ick Attack used a natural form of quinine, making gravel cleaning unnecessary. And pure quinine is quite capable of eliminating Ich in 4 days or less with a single treatment at low temper...

Re: Ich: Treating Tank w/ Nat Geo Herbal Ich Relief
Should I continue treatment with the herbal medicine? Well, if you have even a little ich in the tank there is a strong potential for explosion at any time which would result in the wipeout of your fish. There is of course also a potential for Ich to be eventually eliminated, or -- like I saw happe...

Re: playfull behaviour or intended murder?
Start a new tank for them. It is not nice to feed them to other fish and it is not nice to dump them into lfs -- hybrids should not be distributed generally.Any ideas what to do with the fry?
Best thing is simply not to breed rainbowfish unless it is a species tank.

Re: Ich: Treating Tank w/ Nat Geo Herbal Ich Relief
Is there a strong chance that 86F along w/ frequent gravel vacs be good enough to clear ich? Always there is a chance. There is also a chance that raising temperature to 86F will simply speed up the ich development cycle and wipe out the fish much faster. As for your herbal med: previous attempts i...

Re: New to Dojo Loaches, are these healthy?
The "skinny disease" stuff I keep seeing has me concerned. Rightly so. Non-growing loaches are quite often affected by parasites. And it is easiest to just deworm them and not to worry anymore. OTOH, red gills are not necessarily something to worry about. Younger/smaller fish often shows redder gil...

Re: Clown loach Temperature
Part of the reason, perhaps the biggest one, is that Clowns (and most loaches) are nocturnal. It is normal to hide during the day, show up during the evening and -- a little -- during the early morning. but you also have a very large group, so it would be reasonable to expect them to hide less and c...

80-82F here too, they are fine and active.
Some keep them at 86F and this seems safe... but it is not good for most other fish, so practically this is an option to consider in a species tank only.

Re: E.kalotaenia fry
The fish behind is a male in the standard sexual expectation position... the fry is currently about 1/3 of his size.

Thanks, Nancy,
I'll try for a better photo tonight... should be easier now with more (and larger) fry out.

Re: E.kalotaenia fry
PS. A bit curious how large your erromyzons were. I noticed fishbase sizes ... well, of course their data is always suspect but it tends to underestimate the size of fish (size comes from some specimen that was measured). Kalotaenia *females* are a bit larger than 4.8cm, for example. But the value f...

Re: Please help me, my loach is sick (pictures!)
Don't know, sorry. It is yet another furan* variation and I've never used it.
Can you get kanamycin? (if not, what about doxycycline or minocycline)? -- and use it while continuing treatment with your 1st med.

Re: Please help me, my loach is sick (pictures!)
Flex (columnaris) are the most likely guess. Your problem is that the more effective medication is Furan2 (or bi-Furan, another manufacturer of the same med) has two antibiotics in it and they work nicely together, yours has only one of them... so you are seeing partial results. You may be able to f...

Re: E.kalotaenia fry
Digging (and behavior in general) seems dependent on the species. E.kalotaenia is quite different from E.sp.red spot and you had I think E.sinensis which may be yet different. With E.kalotaenia (whom I watched quite a lot) most digging is done by males, and with a very specific purpose of checking/p...
