Hi Jess, Great to see yet another Aussie join us - there is quite a few of us now. Lucky you getting the Botia Rostrata, you will have to keep an eye out for more "contaminants" but I suppose she thinks she is a Yo-Yo and "hangs" with them. Its a good part of working in a Fish Shop that you get firs...

Hi Robert, The "Aquariumwarehouse' in Southport had Kub's about 1 month ago for $25. They have a shop in Underwood ph-0732085537 and Southport ph-0755915162. I got 5 in February at $40 each they were around 3cm and rather skinny but responded quickly to good feeding and doubled this size in 3 months...

Hi and welcome to Loachaholics Anonomous I understand it is a good idea to give your Kubotia a Levamisole treatment as they are wild-caught and wild-caught Botia are usually infected with Nematodes and Gill Flukes. The Levamisole will treat the Nematodes but Praziquantel will be needed for Gill Fluk...

Thanks for your answers Jim. I spoke to the operater at our Water Treatment Plant who said they dosed at a rate of 0.8 - 1.0 PPM. He also said if I came to the plant I could get water before it was dosed with Flouride or Chlorine but suggested a small dose of chlorine be added and left for 12 hours ...

Flouride??

Our Local water has Flouride added in minute quantitys and I was wondering if it could have any adverse affects on Loaches given their sensitivity? Does carbon remove it? Does it build-up due to evaporation? It is classed as a Marine Pollutant with a toxic affect on all marine life but in what amoun...

Thanks Adam - it seems to me that owners are very happy with their FX5. The positives for me are the high actual flow rates - increased media contact times - longer maintenance intervals -the ability to purge the primary stage but most imortant to me is their quietness.I find noisy aeration or filtr...

Hi Sophie, I would not use foam inside the intake hose no matter how course it is as it will cause cavitation which will damage the impeller and housing of the pump. It is quite ok to restrict the output hose to slow-down flow but never restrict the intake hose. You have to allow a equal or larger a...

I hope to keep Hillstreams,Kuhli and Pakistani in groups of six and have three or four other exotic Loaches depending on what is available locally....
