Re: Best Algae Eater for My Tank?
Thanks for the kind comment. I want to be more positive but I truly think that having a Bristlenose in a 20g is not perfect. I feel that i would run out of algae and have to feed veggies. Then, the water quality would plummet as decaying veggies / veggie poop are bad news for the aquarium and aquari...

Re: Best Heating Solutions
The standard Visitherm seem by far the best heaters around here. They came out way ahead in the Practical Fishkeeping reader poll.
I was sceptical at first, but can confirm they are easily the best I've tried and I won't buy anything else now.
That may not help you over there though, sorry!

Re: Best Algae Eater for My Tank?
It depends on what kind of algae, partly. I would think that 20 gallon is rather small to sustain a good algae-eating fish. I don't like feeding vegetables as the waste from these kills the water quality. Nerite snails are effective and I have one over 10 years old, so reliable and long-lived too. O...

Re: Kuhli Loaches hiding
Yes, that was my impression before I joined this site - that they would hide all the time. A passerby noticed my largest aquarium through my living room window as it was lit up on dark nights. As an unsucessful fishkeeper he wanted to give me his two remaining fish, a mature female Krib and a large ...

Mine do this - a lot!
I've always likened it to spawning behaviour but I've never seen any eggs.

Re: Need some help with loach mates
It depends on your temperature, partly. I guess you are at 80F for the loaches? If so, I would advise that many barbs require cooler temps for most of the year except perhaps the breeding season, if in doubt look it up on Google or similar. Rainbows should be good, just get the colour you want. I ha...

Re: Homebase Sharp Sand for loaches?
Akwarybka, 1mm is coarse sand.
Silver Sand is fine sand.
Pool Filter sand is coarse sand.
I believe this is the case.
I prefer fine sand. Why do you want coarse sand? It's OK, I'm just wondering.

Re: My loach has a tongue!
Hi, I have an interest in invertebrates and had a look at your video twice. From my observation and experience I decided that the "tongue" may not be alive at all, but may be some debris stuck to the fishes mouth/teeth. Any type of debris could do this, especially beard algae or similar. I could see...

Re: Homebase Sharp Sand for loaches?
I use horticultural grade Silver Sand. My catfish love it. I believe it is inert and also of great benefit is the fact that all the stuff I've bought has been clean straight from the bag. Pool filter sand seems to be what many people use, but I haven't tried it yet. I too would be wary of sharp sand...
