Re: Treat with Levamisole again?

When I went back to the tank to try and get some photos, the little guy was definitely struggling. And I realized how skinny he now seemed, even from yesterday. So I did a 50% water change, removed the charcoal and added a half dose of levamisole. I’ll add the other half in 12 hours. Lights are off ...

Treat with Levamisole again?

2 threads started in one day! :D My sids are doing great. Still in the smaller holding tank as I’ve had problems keeping fish alive in the 40 b after I rescaped it. Sigh. No cycle crash but fish getting lethargic, refusing to eat, and dying. I think I’ve finally linked the issue to the new driftwood...

Video of my Botia dario

Happily sifting some sand!
All 7 are doing well and are such a joy to watch. I do however, compare them to arguing siblings lol!

Re: loach talk!

Ah ok! I missed that he was mainly talking about breeding. :D
Then I won’t worry that my sids may be unhappy in the 16” deep tank!
Although it would be cool to breed them.

Re: loach talk!

Hmm, do you remember why he said sids prefer a 24” deep? My 40 b is not quite that and actually neither is my 75 g.

Re: Videos. Cyst bursting. Silver Dollar (lives with loaches)

Oh wow. I’m jealous lol! I’m using RO/DI water but out of curiosity I decided to check the tds of my well water out of the tap: 303. It could be worse but only 2 months into the RO system and I’m ready to change out the DI resin. I could use a softener but we’ve just never looked into one. But then ...

Re: Points to watch with RO units?

Haha! Guess I should explain my masculine screen name. :) Basil is the barn name of my grand old horse. He’s 27 this year. Do you follow horse racing? The real Basil raced over American timber until he was 11 yrs. old and then became my fox hunter for 7 seasons. He’s been retired for a few years now...

Re: Points to watch with RO units?

Yep there is definitely waste weater. My 75 gpd unit does about 1 gallon RO/DI water to 3 gallons waste if it is working at the optimal parameters. There is a larger unit that does 150 gpd that can do a 1:1.5 ratio but it’s not a good unit if your source water is above a certain tds ( I forget the n...

Re: Points to watch with RO units?

I’ve been using strictly RO since December. I was purchasing it at my LFS. 2 months ago, we installed our own unit, a 5 phase unit (particulate filter, 2 carbon filters, RO canister, and DI resin canister). I’m in the US, so you might not have access to what I use. This unit is from Bulk Reef Supply...

Re: Update on my loaches! With video

Thank you redshark1! Is was you who had sids before, correct? And spoke so highly of them. And had to rehome them when you went to university? I remembered that story when my LFS told me they had some in. :D And yes, I break the algae wafers into smaller pieces to try and eliminate squabbling. But o...

Re: Update on my loaches! With video

NancyD, I did take your advice and am doing 2 20% water changes on the 75g per week. And a 40% change about every 5 days on the 10g holding tank that the sids are currently in. We just installed a 5 phase RO/DI system from Bulk Reef Supply so on my day off today, I’ll be testing the water made from ...

Re: Update on my loaches! With video

Thanks loachloach and nancyd! I’ll feed the sids maybe a bit more frozen food. I do actually feed the Darios the New Life spectrum mini pellets every morning. But I’ve been alternating the afternoon feeding with Hikuri algae wafers and some sort of frozen food (thawed in tank water). I only feed the...
