Thai Chicken with Cashews & Chiles There's a local Thai restaurant chain here that makes fairly impressive food. Some independent Thai places make slop, so as in all things, I'm a bit fussy. I've been trying to master what I think is the local chain's best dish. Tonight I got very, very close, and i...

I watched Julie & Julia last night, and didn't hate it. Actually, Meryl Streep as Julia Child was so entertaining it more than made up for the yuppie simp character/side story, which was poorly handled, IMO. I honestly didn't care if the Julie character lived or died. But Streep is GOOD in this. You...

I made Koresht Ghaimeh last night for the first time, basically using an online recipe - thankfully Persian recipes abound. Pick through 1 cup of dry split peas, simmer them for 20 minutes in 1 1/2 cups of water, rinse under tepid water and drain. Set aside. Sautee two onions, then add your cubed (1...

Me too! I'm amazed they made a "video" for it - a little boring, but cool archival material. Every time I listen to this song (which has made it into several anthology discs), the weird blend of styles amazes me. There's a bit of soul, the syncopated rhythm and oddball rhythm instruments, the ska gu...

Alas, we have time to archive it! The autumn photos from lots of members in October of 2009 seems like a worthy opportunity to anchor this sticky. It's so nice to see multiple photo contributions from around the world, and it seems like an excellent neutral space for this forum. If anyone is of a mi...
