Yes, while I wrote my reply, Martin and LES already answered very wisely. I had not thought of the backflow problem either. The smaller you make the output space, the bigger the backflow problem is.

Janne- I really like your idea. All hidden out of sight. Something to think about is the amount of flow. The concentrated jet streams of the powerheads will be behind the false wall so the flow that you get out front will be dispersed and spread out. Thus it will not seem to be nearly as much flow a...

Helen- No mathematical story, but if you have ever heard of Seifert fibering and foliations of manifolds (concerning the study of 3 dimensional spaces), then the normal markings on a Striata look like a Seifert fibering and the unusual pattern that you have on your exceptional Striata is more like a...

Wonderful! I like the half sand, half gravel and all of the nice looking rocks. You are making me want to try live plants again after many years without them.

I agree with Katt. I also like canister filters. If you get a canister filter you may be overfiltering (which is not a bad thing) on the current tank, but as you move up to the 120, I think you may want the extra filtration.

Yes, I second Martin's and others comments. Your pictures show a very nice artistic style. I had to look at them all several times. Please post more and more often.

Keeb- Thanks. I would not say that circular flow is better than unidirectional flow, but is just a different method. I tried both methods in my tank with new sand that I could stir up which would put fine particles in the water and then I could see the current speeds and directions (when there were ...

Thanks Emma and Graeme.

Graeme, the moon light string is just warm to the touch, but does not even seem to noticeably warm the glass top that it is sitting on. It does light the tank, but rather minimally, so I may add a second string to make it a bit lighter.

Thanks all. Graeme- I'll try for some of the night images tonight. loachmom- My wife would laugh out loud if she heard me being described as patient. But I do enjoy the planning stages so that slows me down a lot. Concerning hillstreams, I've decided that I do want to get hillstreams, but that they ...
