Re: Do hillstream loaches sift through sand?

You could age the water first. That is, take a load of buckets, fill them, and wait a day or so before using the water.

But in many cases this is rather impractical

Re: Do hillstream loaches sift through sand?

Damages can add up.Co2 would kill them Just to confirm, there's no CO2 in this tank. It's a low tech, nothing is added. The CO2 is in my tap water, hence the bubbles after a large water change...The plants also start pearling after a water change, creating more bubbles...... What you are saying is....

Re: Snails in hillstream loach tank?

Handpicking snails is by far the best way of getting rid of snails, or better put, buying fish to eat snails does not work, as the fish will still need them after the last one is eaten. Chemicals is never a solution for a tank problem. However, it could well be a sufficient current is enough to keep...

Re: PHOTOS

While the article is mostly correct, there is one sentence which is utterly wrong Nitric acids, humic acids and other organic matter will all contribute to acidification of aquarium water. This will typically result in pH readings lower than the table assumes — resulting in a false CO2 calculation. ...

Re: PHOTOS

From the above I mostly see people don´t know what KH is . Can you be more specific? I completely disagree with the statement that CO2 will alter/raise the KH... I wonder what there is to disagre about On one hand, KH does not measure CO2. That is true. But, after adding CO2 to water - any water, u...

Re: PHOTOS

No, aeration will increase the amount of CO2 in the water. CO2 + H2O gives an instable molecule, H2CO3. This molecule can fall apart in two directions, it can fall back, H2O and CO2 or it can fall into H+ and HCO3- That is, increasing CO2 in the water wil lincrease both the concventrations HCO3/, th...

Re: PHOTOS

From the above I mostly see people don´t know what KH is. KH is carbonate hardness, the K comes from the German word Karbonaat. A concentration of 0,179 mmol / l is 1 KH, and if it is double, the hardness is 2. That is, the scale is linear, contrarily to pH. KH measures carbonate and bicarbonate. Ch...

The responses are all rather similar, and sometimes misplaced.

I think he or she wants us to click on the link. Which is something I will not dare to do, I need my computer too much. Some links are really dangerous for a computer, most of them only known by numbers, such as this one

Re: CLOWN LOACH BREEDING????

From the video I can not confirm anythink. I can only say that feeding - basically overfeeding - the parents with fish is said to be an important factor.

Most likely first some starving (dry season) and than lots of food, that is rainy season

Mine are not, and I did add to the group. Still, if you have 3 or so, that is, not really a group, fish cvan behave differently than expected. Many fish are either very agressive or very shy when kept eith too few

Re: Dwarf Chain Loaches Nipping

Mine are together with Sundanio sp, of 2cm max. I never see any problems with regard to agression. In fact, I´ve once put a few baby swordtails in thier tank, @ 6 mm, which grew out to beautifull specimen, without any losses

Is it Ambastaia sidheymunckey? I never know "common" names, And frankly, I don't even try to find them. If you want my advise, I'd suggest you take the trouble of finding the correct Latin name

Re: Sewellia: is fluffy green algae OK?

Generally speaking, fish eating algea in the form of hairs are rather specialized. I don't know about Sewelia, but I would assume they won't eat it.

It won't harm your fish, they will most likely ignore it
