Re: Need help ASAP! Bullying

Well I agree it may be worth waiting a couple of months to see if it continues or stops but I wouldn't want it happening permanently for the fishes life span.

Re: Popping Noise.

My two big females gray out and "fight" occasionally but are always back on friendly terms straight afterwards.

When hand feeding I notice the popping sound is synonymous with a strong sucktion. I think the sound is produced due to cavitation - the production of a shock wave.

Re: Need help ASAP! Bullying

It's your call. I would remove the aggressor. I hate bullies. If the bully gets away with it why would he stop?

Re: SWEETYSMUMS SICK CLOWN LOACH HELP

Dear Sweetysmum I'm so very sorry for your loss. This is a very sad thread, but as someone who always searches for a cloud's silver lining I feel it is also a tremendously enlightening and encouraging one. I feel sure this thread will give hope and inspiration to many people aiming to give their Clo...

Re: Interesting Clown Loach markings

I was in my LFS recently and there was a tank full of young Clown Loach, several of which had unusual markings and also, I noticed, there were some with snub noses (rounded severely short noses instead of the usual long pointed ones). The staff member, who is very knowledgeable indeed and who I know...

Re: Loach attacking other fish

Rainbows bred by me, now 5.5 inches. I have some spare young fish for collection if required but this strain of Rainbow needs a decent size tank due to the size and active nature. Some Boeseman's seem much smaller and with less colour. These are the best I have ever seen. http://i257.photobucket.com...

Re: Loach attacking other fish

I recommend keeping Angels singly. They make a great centrepiece fish with real character if their companions (which I feel they must have) are chosen carefully. Ensure companions are not small enough to swallow, are not too boisterous, do not nip the angels fins, and are sturdy enough to cope with ...

Re: strange behavior for clown loaches

Thanks for positive comments loachlover77. Just a few observations on the above: Looking at the tails of my fish is inconclusive. There is no discernable difference. My males will grey out as well as the females. My females are both much larger than my males and behave differently in their interacti...

Re: Hello!

Hi, this is the place to be for Clown Loaches and their keepers.

I started with Clown Loaches for the same reasons you did.

I started with my 90 gallon tank, though I was recommended 20 gallon by my LFS.

Mine also grew very slowly and are growing still.

Re: strange behavior for clown loaches

Hi, congratulations on the sensational age of your Clown Loaches. You did mean to say they are 21+ years old did you? Anyway, if you had them since 1990 I am gobsmacked that you haven't seen this behaviour before. Mine have been doing it since 1995! I guess you are sexing them on their size and body...

Re: Golden Loaches

I like these golden sucking loaches to look at, but haven't kept them.

If you read up on them like I have you may conclude that they are not recommended to be kept with goldfish (and are scarcely compatible with anything apparently).

Re: Golden Loaches

Another point of interest is that Gyrinocheilus aymonieri are NOT loaches, but cyprinids (carp family), as are goldfish.

Re: Golden Loaches

This sounds like the golden form of the Sucking Loach Gyrinocheilus aymonieri to me.

There is lots of information about them on this site and elsewhere on the web.
