Mystery Loach

Remember my little guy that came in with the Rosy Loaches... he hitchiked in a filter to another tank so he rules the tank by himself now. He's grown into a slim long bodied guy about 2 to 3 times the size of the Rosy Loaches.

Oh goodie. I have both albino tiger barbs and rosy barbs! So far, the barbs are all chasing each other and leaving everything else alone. However, I might add that my Yo Yo's are a good 5 inches in size while the barbs are still small yet.

It amazes me!!

When I moved the clowns from the Q tank to the larger tank I decided that I had better add a few more caves for them. All in all there are now 11 caves in the tank for the Yo Yo loaches, the clowns and several plecos of which only one is a male. For some reason, they have all decided on the one cave...

Most of my loaches seem to enjoy the cukes and squash. It merely hits the water when the BN and plecos are on it. The loaches work their way in later in the day. They won't eat it immediately. I have not seen the Striatra touch it though nor have I tried it with the Rosy Loaches.

My little guys run about 3 to 3 1/4 inches in length and I've had them for almost two years now. Although the black ones fill out nicely, they are no where as near as overweight looking as the regular p.myers.

Yes, that's the same behavior pattern I've been seeing for about the past week. I have just about the same number of fish - 20 - half and half. However, at this time there are only one or two females who've shown signs of plumpness. The males seem to push the stomach area almost like a baby whale wo...

Rosy Loach Update

Well I discovered yesterday that the little Rosy Loaches need as much oxygen in their water as the bigger guys. I put in a new external filter which doesn't cause much distrubance on the surface on Friday. Everything was fine until yesterday (Saturday) morning when I noticed all the small Rosy loach...

The clowns seem to be slowly settling in. Of course, with 7 empty caves to check out the pack leader wants the cave the female Yo Yo has been living in for several weeks now. They've had several fights over the cave and when both of them were on the other side of the tank earlier, the pleco moved in.

Moving day for the clowns

Well the clowns in the Q tank just got too big and I decided moving day has finally come. Since I knew this would be a messy messy job I decided to install my new cannister filter at the same time. I yanked up three plants causing a cloudy mess of gravel, roots, etc. Somewhere in pulling up the plan...

I find that half my regular kuhlis stay in one mountain cave by themselves while another group lives in another cave and a third group lives in a log. The black kuhlis like living with the first group and the log group but don't seem to live with the second group. Go figure.

Nothing. It had to be at night and there's a batch of BN's in with them.

Gravid Yo Yo Loaches

Here's an update. Both females look considerably slimmer with a much smaller stomach than before. I didn't notice any unusual activity in the tank until just recently when they weren't their active selves. They have been hiding these past couple of days with the male being the main one out.

The close up corner shot of the kuhlis feeding was taken in the 5 gallon tank at about the 6 month period before I moved them all into the other tank.

Several of mine are very active during the daylight hours too. I can see them out front in the clear area most of the daytime.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b136/nashnut/kuhlitank.jpg Here's a shot of my kuhli tank when I first set it up. I added a few more kuhlis and moved the log in the back area to another spot and added a mid size rock with openings which they love. They go thru the entry ways, and under it. The ja...
