Re: Quick question on skinny disease
I'm not even sure if my sick kubotai loaches have the skinny disease or not. They are appearing listless and are panting heavily. Water conditions are perfect (6ft tank, only about 35 small loaches in tank, so a very low bio-load). Most other loaches in the tank are not bothered at all. I lost my fi...

Re: How long should I wait after sewellia lineolata breed
I discovered a bunch of fry in my tank this morning as well. I have had my sewellia breed before, but none of those fry survived (one got to about 15mm in length, and then it disappeared as well). 5 months ago I did a water change and in the process one of my 4 sewellia died. So I thought I might ha...

Re: Catching Yoyos...
If you have ich, don't forget to increase the temperature to 28-29degrees C and put an airstone inside the tank (if you don't already have one in there). I'm in Brisbane, Australia (where we had the shocking floods 12 months ago), and in the last 3 weeks my 6ft tanks have all registered temps of 31d...

Re: Upside-Down Yoyo
I'd say he is normal, and a bit of a doofus. I have a striata loach that loves wedging his face into a small gap in some driftwood.... which sounds normal, except that it leaves his entire body sort of just 'hanging' vertically with his tail out in the open. There is no real camoflage for him, but m...

Re: River manifold: glue?
I don't see the point in gluing it. The pieces should push together well enough, and be reasonably tight. It is unlikely to be 'moved' by anything once it is placed in the tank and gravel poured over it. And the powerheads really don't put the pipework under enough suction/pressure to warrant tightl...

Re: Loach/goby indentification?
Can you tell us where you live, Vincentp ? Might help narrow down where the fish could have come from (if it was a local fish, anyways...) I know of someone in Australia who has a very large variety of gobys but he only keeps fish that are native to Australia. And there is also a group of people in ...

Re: River-Tank manifold
I do believe that your presumption is correct... you shouldn't have any issues with high oxygen levels with that wet-dry filter and the way the water falls between each layer. You can cut your own sponges, and the round shape doesn't stay looking round for very long once some algae starts growing on...

Re: When a bigger tank is not possible
Sharky,, when you say the below rather than getin those useles kits just get a wavemaker off ebay for 10 bucks .... are you referring to the API Test Kits for Ammonia, nitrite and Nitrate that EmilyMarie has recommended? If you are suggesting that the kit is useless, then you are very wrong. Every f...

Re: River-Tank manifold
Matt -- Your tank looks great. Don't worry about there not being bubbles blowing everywhere throughout the tank. Bubbles will obviously rise, unless they are absolutely tiny micro bubbles - so the visible bubbles will disappear before the end of the tank. If you want to see what sort of 'flow' you h...

Re: When a bigger tank is not possible
If there is no more sign of ich, and there hasn't been any sign for a week, then drop the temperature down. The ich only affects the fish when the fish are not that healthy for starters. If you have healthy fish then they often wont even get the disease, so it isn't a problem. To make your fish heal...

Re: Add more sewellias to decrease aggression?
I have 4 sewellias in a small 1ft wide by 1.5ft long space. In the tank I normally have a MASSIVE load of fist size and bigger rocks, carefully placed so that they rest on top of each other and against the glass. Sure, there isn't much straight swimming space down low, but each fish has many many hi...

Re: Are there any benefits having shrimp in with borneo suck
A bit of a post dig up, but I discovered my first sewellia baby in my tank last night. I think this might be a spotted species fry. Earlier on yesterday I noticed a dead sewellia lineolata (stripy one), and I removed it and decided to remove all the sand that was in the tank, and the millions of sna...

Oops, I posted the below in the wrong topic a few moments ago... I'll try again here: Borneo24... I know a fish store owner in Australia (Brisbane) who specialises in hard to find tropical species. The owner is like me and you and most others on here: they love botia loach species and the hillstream...

Re: stupid country restrictions
I'm in Brisbane, and only last weekend I managed to find Botia Kubotai at a large petstore. I bought 15 of them, but at $20 each it wasn't a cheap exercise. There were still about 15 left. They were reffered to as 'Golden Chain loaches' or something. Some of the guys in the store knew exactly what t...
