Definately a cool little fish. Day active, frisky, don't damage plants. I have 6 alone in a 20g long but I'm cycling a 75g for them & 6 striatas. I'm hoping to add to them in a while. Stores around here, greater Boston & beyond, have them sometimes for ~$12-15 for the 1/2in. (& now smaller-- see tin...

To think I was worried about 1/2" sids only 8 months ago. The 1 I saw would easily be sucked into any filter intake. I did buy some 1.2" striatas recently so maybe we are encouraging this practice. :(

It's also good to increase aeration no matter which treatment(s) you go with. Just drop the water level so the filter return moves the surface more.

I was on a bit of a road trip the other day & saw the smallest sidthimunki ever, 1/4 inch TL! It was in with some 1/2" ones & about as big around as a pencil lead. I was admiring the gold coloring of the bigger ones or I'd have missed him. I hope that's not going to become the new standard retail si...

To me it looks similar to an older kubotai where the spots keep getting smaller, dividing as they age. I realize kubotais are from Myanmar.

I used to have a diatom XL , a real PITA to set up. I'm not sure it's similar to the freedom. I've also read the magnums clog fast. I'd skip the carbon too unless you need it for something specific. An AquaClear HOB would be inexpensive but another eheim with interchangable parts sounds nice. I've r...

Mine sold sheep pills individually but I read they're messy. You can put them in a coffee filter. I used the powder pig wormer, not much in the bottom of a plastic bottle. You don't have to mix it all up at once if you can divide it carefully, the dosage has a pretty wide range.

kimmers, I wouldn't get the colored stuff, better to be safe. (Sorry to make you repeat things, too much antihistamines I guess) I was thinking there could be some regional water issue like naturally high levels of say fluoride or something that falls in the "safe range" for people. As for internal ...

I had only 2 sids years ago & they seemed happy. I never saw any again until this year. Now I have 6 & they are much more playful & I think I"ll add some more. Wonderful fish!

I'm not sure what you mean by colored play sand, like blue or just a natural tan? (It doesn't seem like parents would want to risk dying kids or carpets but I don't have any  & my wild fish tank days a long gone  ) Really play or pool filter sand is usually fairly local so there's a range...

order of additions & dithers

It's early for this since my mail-order was wrong but here goes. I'm setting up a 75gal for 6 striatas & 6 sids currently in separate species only tanks. (This partially so I can move 1 tank to make room for a bigger clown tank :D & get my Q tank back) Pretend it's cycled, fishless, old filter media...

O.K. then I"LL go OT & ask why you measure conductivity. I never saw anyone give that # before, is it more a saltwater thing? I do not want to have to test for anything more :) , I'm pretty casual now unless there's a problem since it's always about the same. Just curious. Cute fish BTW & nic...

Hi kimmers, just another or 2 thought on sand. I like the black substrate look too but I wanted to try a plant kind so I went with (dark gray) eco-complete. In the store it looked more like small gravel but this a.m. the stuff I ordered came & it seems more like coarse sand. Its about the same $$ as...
