Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

The main tanks' water temp is at 86F now. I've noticed some scraping against rocks with 2 clowns (Gracie being one of them) that's a bit worrisome, but not a major concern yet. Also my runt of the litter has a somewhat frayed dorsal fin that I'll need to keep an eye on. I'll probably need to quarant...

Ardillakilla- that's very interesting about o2 concentrators. I've seen that some fish farms have used them to help incubate eggs. I'm curious, how did you go about injecting antibiotics and force feeding the loach?

Re: Clown Loaches with Cherry Shrimp (Breeding)

Most fish will eat shrimp babies if given the chance, clown loaches especially.

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

The alert meter is a little higher Today, but according to some people I might just be "stressing over nothing". Anyway, I just had my 1st mystery death since the cross contamination. An old large Boesmani Rainbowfish has died. It had some kind of gill ailment (perhaps ich) and was obviously struggl...

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

Thanks for the advice all. So far, my fish are doing fine. "An aquarium no matter what you do, is full of pathogens. Fish immune system deals with it very well." I'm most worried about 1 pathogen in particular, and that's ich. Ich is a non-native pathogen to my fish tanks, that my fish aren't immune...

Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

Good news: I finally bought some new fish. It's been about 8 years since I made a fish purchase. I got 8 Kuhli Loaches from Petsmart for $2 each. I have them in a quarantine tank that I had about a dozen Ramshorn snails in. The fish looked perfectly healthy when I got them home, but being that I bel...

Re: New Clown Tank (Serving Penance or doing right by the fi

It's good that you caught that. Osmotic shock or acclimation stress is often the culprit for mystery deaths. I recommend checking the tap water with a TDS meter before water changes. Check that the TDS is the same from both faucets too. TDS meters measure the dissolved solids or conductivity of the ...

Re: New Clown Tank (Serving Penance or doing right by the fi

The Island idea works pretty good. But also if you set-up all the driftwood, plants, and other tall objects in the mid section of the tank, like it was a race track, the water will flow around in circles better. Mixing some pebbles in with the sand isn't a bad idea either if you want to keep the man...

Re: New Clown Tank (Serving Penance or doing right by the fi

Hello and welcome to LOL. I had the same problem with my 1st clown loaches about 9 years ago. They started off with a 6 gallon tank, then moved to a 33 gallon within a few days, then into a 90 gallon within a few months. I probably could of stopped at the 90 gallon tank, but it's only escalated sinc...

Welcome to LOL, Tony.

I also live in the Detroit area and have 30+ clowns. I've never been to fish club meeting before. I'd be in interested in checking it out.

I never saw plants grow that thick on driftwood before. That is wonderful!

Like the framed fish pictures too!

Re: Clown STILL SKINNY even after Levamisol, Maracyn/Maracyn

I'd try Prazipro next. It's worked for a few of my fish, when other meds, such as Levamisole and Maracyn I & II didn't.

Re: To save or not to save? This is my question...

I wouldn't. You'd need to put the kub in a quarantine tank for about a month before adding it to that river tank, otherwise you risk infecting all the other fish with deadly pathogens. The only way I'd do it is if I set up a new bigger tank and got more kubs. It's just not worth rescuing lone fish, ...

Re: FOTAS in Dallas/FW Sept. 14-16

Sounds like fun. I'd love to go to fish show and loach presentation sometime. Wish there was one near me in Detroit. Have a great time!
