Re: Thinking about Switching away from R/O need help.

You could also incorporate some of Diana Walstad's el natural tank methods. These type of tanks use plants and soil to help recycle the water. With loaches, perhaps a sump or external filter with plants and soil, would be more ideal. Aquaria Central has a lot of info on setting up these kind of tan...

Re: Hypergastromyzon

jim, i have noticed mine eating algae, at least it appeared that way. i haven't seen them eating it off the glass so i can't be positive, but i have seen their little heads moving as if they are eating algae off rocks, and i think a anubias leaf could be wrong. in my community i have noticed that so...

Re: Hypergastromyzon

i have found my Hypers to do very well in a tank with gastro. they tended to blend in with the other gastros, and actually seem to be a bit hardier than gastro. i was away for three weeks and had my mother watch my tank for me. i lost half of my population, mostly losing gastro (around 5) and only l...

Thinking about Switching away from R/O need help.

i recently moved to florida, and money has become very tight. i've been thinking about swiching to tap water on my tanks to save a few bucks.my big concern is my hillstream tank, which has already been decimated by loss. I had my mother taking care of my tank while i was away working and 3/4s of my ...

Re: hillstream loach setup

why are you putting the pad in the center? seems like it would just water all of that water agitation. also what are you looking at for your substrate? personally i don't think a 15 is large enough. i would recommend a 20l or bigger tank. remember this fish come from a river that is shallow and long...

Re: Loach-durable plants for Asian hillstream biotope?

mosses don't hold up very well in high flow areas. any crypt will do well, and anubias will also do well. if you can keep it down i have bacopa in mine aswell....not sure if those really fit the asian theme but yeah.

Re: Have to find a new home for my loaches

i'm really sorry to hear that. i'm currently in a similar situation, minus the the retiring thing. if i had the tank space i would gladly give them a good home. maybe once i get established in florida, if no one else has taken them.

Re: Caring for 5 SUPER TINY Clowns - HELP!

have you tried the blanched squash or zuccini? maybe blanch spinach or something else. that usually works. i wouldn't be worried that they are not eating yet, they are young and just had a very tramatic experience. just keep giving them what they need and they will come around. i'm not a clown loach...
