Re: Plants for the lazy loach owner.

anubias, and crypts are very easy plants that do well in most light set-ups, and do not require ferterilzers. they are also slow growers so you won't need to trim them often. hygrophila is another easy to grow plant species, that doesn't require ferts. they can grow rather quickly and require more f...

Re: Is your hillstream tank water clear?

It sounds as if your problems with tank clarity are caused by it being a new tank instead of an algae bloom. Regardless, a UV is not a requirement, just a suggestion. In this case, you might want to dose the tank with some starter bacteria and let it mature. Its always better to introduce hillstrea...

Re: Catching up...

thanks Nancy. Kubotai were just starting to show up when I last had aquaria and I was lucky enough to have a couple of them briefly before I dismantled my last tank and had to give them away. Did a tour of a few shops at the weekend and saw plenty of Striatas and yoyos, a few kubotai and a couple o...

Re: Lighting for 55g hillstream

Thanks for the replies. The reason I was looking for the K spectrum instead of PAR is if algae had different light absorption different from standard plants. Since so much info is on reduceing algae while increasing planted biomass I was worried about getting a light with a K that would not fit alg...

Re: Lighting for 55g hillstream

Trying to do my homework for a 55g hillstream loach tank. Currently im stuck on what K spectrum I should be looking for a medium planted tank. I wasnt planning on using CO2 but I will if it needed to keep the plant and algae communities to support my hillstreams. I was looking at LED for the overal...

Re: Gastromyzon vs. Sewellia

i like them both. personally i'm a little more of a fan of the gastromyzons because they seem to have more species with more variety and colors, also i like prefer the body shape of gastromyzon.

Re: Help with Hillstream ID please

thank you jim.

i keep coming back to dr. tan saying that Stellatus has a larger head than zebrinus. i don't know if that is the case? however in nearly all of the photos of Stellatus i have seen they show blue in the tail fin, and i am yet to see that in mine.

Re: Help with Hillstream ID please

i Hello, I think, name "G.myersi", apparently, should mean Pseudogastromyzon myersi. Just a guess. At the photo real Gastromyzon looks like G.stellatus. the size of a full grown sewellia lineolata. What is the size in sm or inches? Shape of spots? Pics would be helpful. thanks for the correction, th...
