Thanks, Shari. I never feed live worms only the occasional snail from plants & I know that can be risky. I recently tried frozen cyclops before reading they can be a vector for parasites. I don't know if they can survive being frozen but could not possibly be the source for this outbreak a few days ...

Thanks, mistergreen. It was primarily for my new apistos that I was using levamisole this time. I had read they often have worms.

These worms are nasty, the red, more active 1 kept poking at my finger & I didn't want to find if it could attach itself. Creepy.

I'd go for a week after you don't see any spots, there may still be some in the gills. Although I haven't used the med with nitrofurizone, malachite green is light-sensitive I believe. Good luck. BTW I change 30-40% water weekly.

worms in filter

I found 2 live worms in my HOB filter after using levamisole--yuck. One was red, 1 tan appx 1/8-1/4 inch long. Cammalanus? no segmentations I could see so not tapeworms. A week ago I treated my clown loach & plec tank with levamisole mostly because I had it mixed for another tank. My newish scribble...

Try some floating plants, the gouramis might like them too. A dark background would keep some light from bouncing off the walls. Maybe try tipping the urns over more so less light goes in & the loaches don't have to go up off the gravel as much to go in. My clowns stay out more if the have tiny pell...

I've been to Skipton's once, nice fish people but with construction & no co-pilot I couldn't get there last time. Ned gets much more unusual loaches even moosefaces once & keeps his expected order list on his web site. If you like a road trip Exotic Pets in Hadley is nice but signs are vague, 3 diff...

The only time I saw a spine flash was for no apparent reason in a mid pecking order clown. There was no food or even a very nearby fish of any kind. I took it as flexing his muscle kind of thing or maybe it was directed toward me?

Hi, I'm in the greater Boston area, Metro-west as we say. Tropic Isle in Framingham has darios, balteatas, kubotai. kuhlis & clowns now as I recall from a couple days ago. Uncle Ned's Fish Factory in Millis has different loaches sometimes too. Lovely Pets in Quincy I've only been to a couple times b...

My lfs just got these in as well. They are calling them sumo loaches. I wasn't sure whay they might be since many had a lot of the striping but the bright pinky-coral middles were a giant id help after I got home. I'm glad I kept my impulsive buy thoughts under control, I don't have a grrr tank (yet...

What kinds of food do you feed? I've read of problems with spoiled frozen foods & mystery deaths. I'm sorry you are having problems.

Striatas are very peaceful, I love mine. A very small amount of food guarding once in a while. They love to "dance" up & down the tank. Of course if the rams breed I don't think any fish can ignore eggs.

I decided I should look at mine, It's a smaller one than I remembered but no "do not submerge" sticker. I thought I'd take out an UGF plate in the clown tank & put the quick filter to the test. It worked quite well & I may take out the other plate after lunch. Not nearly the mess I was expecting.

That's the one I got as a spare still in the box so if it can't be immersed I'll be bummed. Maybe it's just the venturi thingy won't work right if the air intake is underwater...go ahead angelfish, you go first  .

Wow, the S. reevesae is amazing! I've only seen the NAME a couple times.

I've been resisting learning to spell yasuhikotakia (!?) for a while now but I agree that sinibotia (got it !) doesn't seem right either. Microbotia? Cutibotia?

Here's what I just posted to CanuckFish @ fishgeeks: CanuckFish. I DID try to discuss this with you here when I said a 10g is too small for a 4inch fish (a very conservative estimate). Your response was to cite loaches.com as RECOMMENDING a 5 gal (for a fish that CAN grow to 8 inches). As I am a reg...
