Hello.., I am not an expert, but I do keep weather loaches. They are absolutely wonderful fish, and my favourite. I'm sorry to see your guy looking like this. That must be hard for you to watch! I have a few questions maybe you can answer, and then perhaps the experts can kick in. 1-Was your fish li...

Yes, the internet is like a mega-library, and no overdue fees! The danios have been taken back to the store. I was able to watch them being acclimatized to their new tank and then released. They seem to be doing very well. The store owner put them in with cichlids and large silver dollars, so ...

Hello.., I have 2 Weather Loaches, and 4 Pangio Kuhlis. I have never heard my kuhlis click, (they are as yet pretty small), but my weather loaches most definitely click. They usually click when they are eating frozen defrosted bloodworms out of my hand. They will explore my hand and fingers, and the...

Hello, Diana I am definitely familiar with Farley Mowat, and have read several of his books, though all in my childhood. I have never read The Dog Who Wouldn't Be, but now I think I will. I also remember enjoying his style. It was never difficult to finish one of his books. Perhaps I read about them...

Hi, loachmom..., I have never heard of Pimafix being bad for loaches, but now I will check it out. Last night, after I removed the danios, was the first time I have ever added a full dose, however. I have usually only added 4 tsp. when the dose is 5.5 tsp. It is a 55 Gallon tank, so the dose is pret...

Thanks for your help and suggestions! The situation only got worse.., the stressed loach buried into the gravel under the driftwood with only his head sticking out, breathing irregularly. I have a 1.5 gallon tank reserved for absolute emergencies, because it is so small. I wanted to avoid using it, ...

Hello, Star-splitter... I live in Saskatchewan, Canada, in a small town called Colonsay. The biggest city nearby is Saskatoon, (a 35-40 min. drive) and that is where I do my shopping. Unfortunately living here, there is not as much selection as you may have in the US or UK. Saskatoon is a city of ab...

Thank-you very much for your replies. I think I may try to rehome the danios. I will also take some floating plants from the 20G and put them in the 55 to see if this helps, in the meantime. On the subject of floating plants, where do you get them? I have been using other plants to float, as I have ...

Help!!! Giant Danios Stressing Dojo Loaches!
In my new 55 Gallon, there were 3 White Tetra and 2 Dojo Loaches. There aren't as of yet, a lot of decorations. I do not want to add too many fish at once, and would like to stock the tank rather slowly. The other day, I brought home 3 Giant Danios. Please don't kill me... they were not quarantined....

Wow.., That is crazy.., Not quite sure what to say except that in the wild the fishes wouldn't be in a closed system, and when they are in such a system, which is unnatural, unnatural things may happen. I think a lot of fishes will eat anything that will fit in their mouths...especially if you don't...

The weather loaches (dojos) have thicker, longer, and more barbels than the kuhlis. I'm still a little green here, but I have both species in my tanks, and they are very different, although when juvenile, they look more similar. Also, I think it is wonderful to see pangios with different colour form...

Hello... Please don't be in a hurry..., to answer this..., but I'm wondering how you clean a tank with so many plants. I have quite a few plants as well, and I'm hoping to add more (the planted tank is my absolute favourite, as long before I was into fish, I was crazy about gardening and plants, esp...

Perhaps the owner died??? Whoever had them before must have had a very good reason to trade them in. Whenever I have seen clowns at any of the stores I have visited, they have only been about 2" long. Only once had I ever seen one larger, and he was again, only 4" long. This one was in the only loca...

Hello... Thank-you, Diana.., that seems to make sense. Both loaches were quite stressed when I caught them, but especially one of them. The first one I caught quite easily, and then once they were separated, I was determined to reunite them as soon as possible. Unfortunately the second was not so ea...

Wow.., That's very strange.., I have never heard of that happening before. I know you can touch your fish, and even pet them sometimes, as long as your hands are wet. I think that is because most fish have a protective mucuous covering over their bodies, and you can disrupt it if your hands are dry...
