Can you remember which species they had?
The temperature will affect the life span and susceptibility to diseases, but the amount by which it does will vary quite a lot between different species

Re: gold fish and tropical fish in the same tank ?
Well, either those people are mixing cool water fish with cool water fish (which isn't any different to mixing coldwater fish with coldwater fish or tropical fish with tropical fish), or they're harming the tropical or cool water fish by not giving them the right conditions: the latter just demonstr...

Re: gold fish and tropical fish in the same tank ?
Yes, Goldfish are big eaters and are coldwater so not a good idea to mix with tropicals. Maybe with a DOJO loach :D Well, they can be mixed at the right temperatures, at the points where the ranges for both species overlap and with species which grow large (probably with any that reaches 10 cm or m...

Hi John, can't help you with the loach (good luck!), but you might want to see my list of fish that I consider suitable for a 60*30*30 cm / 24*12*12 inch tank: http://aquariumadventure.wordpress.com/ ... aquariums/

Re: Marble Hatchet - Carnegiella strigata
Hatchets are schooling fish and are generally considered to be shy. Do you have floating plants? If not, I think that is partially the cause for the odd behaviour, with the other half being that they're not in a school. I consider 6 to be a minimum number for a schooling species, with 10-15 being a ...

Re: gold fish and tropical fish in the same tank ?
I don't recommend this because fish are cold blooded, which means that water temperature affects rate of metabolism and wrong metabolism rates can cause health problems. The second problem is that goldfish will eat the average community freshwater fish. Many fish can survive in a wide range of tempe...

[…] but my Hong Kong Plec.... not seen since :( I presume he is hiding, and may do a tank clean today to see if I can flush him/her out - is this a good idea ? Hi Ella, by "Hong Kong plec", do you mean a hillstream loach or an actual plec? Regardless, I recommend that you do not bother it unless yo...

Re: i have found a snail in my tank can someone help me ?
Ah, dwarf gouramis! That's why all the common names are so confusing as they're often used for more than one species :-/ Dwarf gouramis (1m f or 2f) will be fine in a tank that size, although two males are likely to fight :) Good luck with the move… and the clown loach(es?) are kinda likely to eat t...

Re: i have found a snail in my tank can someone help me ?
The snail was most likely floating around in the water and when you netted out the fish to move them, you probably caught it as well. Unless you know that you regularly overfeed, you probably don't have anything to worry about because most snails will not breed out of control without spare food. I c...

It's great that your lot are getting along Just thought I'd mention that many people and I recommend at least 4-6 weeks for effective quarantine as some diseases can remain dormant for a long time.

Re: 60 litre "Asian themed" tank photos
Thanks Suggestions are welcome, as I'm running out of things to change!
I am utterly confused about the loaches, now they are starting to look like the right species, with maybe 1-2 individuals of the wrong one‥ a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

Re: My new 1000 liters clown loaches tank (page 22)
I don't think it's a C. undulata because the leaf shape and colour do not match the "wrinkles" I would expect. I recently got given a plant which looks identical to the one in your photos and the closest ID I had gotten was C. pontederiifolia

My earlier suspicions seem to be correct, I am now very sure that these are juvenile Y. brevis and I have contacted the seller, asking for them to swap the fish for the right species.

Re: 60 litre "Asian themed" tank photos
I picked up the loaches today, they're in quarantine now! There are definitely some males and females, but it's impossible to count how many of each right now (and actually, to even tell if they're 100% the right species). Photos to follow once they're settled in and all that.
