Re: Overstocked?

Awesome! Thank you for your input. I will check nitrates regularly! Last reading was low, 15 or so? But I have been lax since then (as I've been increasingly attentive to the water changes, and less feeding, than I was prior to the test). I have no problem getting rid of some of these fish. I would ...

Re: Cross-species socialization (poor lonely blue)

What a great question~! Being a total newb at the whole loach thing, I wouldn't dare comment on it, other than to say, kudos for your kind heart!!!

Great buy on the rainbows! They are a pricey bunch of fish! Congratulations :). I hope they're all dithering well together.

Overstocked?

I have a 55 gallon with a filter that is rated for a 75 gallon. It's a tall. And I have: 4 dojos. 2 Coolies (used to have more). 4 cardinals. 2 dwarf guarami. 8 dwarf rainbows. 2 otos. and 4 marble hatchets. They are all swimming and eating exactly as they should. I know that the coolies are not the...

Spot and Dot - new babies!

New dojos! Two babies, so tiny, still have that somewhat "tadpole" look to them....and once we got them home they looked even smaller in comparison to our two big dojos. Fatso (female adult dojo) was considering eating one of them! She tasted him, and I guess realized that he's not food, he's family...

Re: Please help, my weather loach is sick!!

Ruthie,
I had to get rid of a bn plec because of his actions towards our dojos. He wounded a couple of them and one of the wounds became infected, and the loach passed away. He's in a much better place now, with no other bottom dwellers, and my loaches are SO much happier now.
Good luck!

Re: how to get loaches out

I never see my kuhlis, but I recently did a fast for the fish of about a day and a half. Those kuhlis (and all the other inhabitants) were out almost immediately once the algae wafer and shrimp pellets were in the water. My first feeding frenzy....and a perfect time to remove their cave (to clean un...

Re: antibacterial treatment

I haven't used medicated food except when combating a parasitic problem. And no fish would eat it lol. I think the dojo's did end up eating one or two, but by accident mostly :D. And my betta had some as well. There is a procedure to make food medicated using powdered meds. You soak the food in the ...

Re: antibacterial treatment

Great info from Loach Orgy when I was also dealing with a wicked, awful fin rot/*possibly columnaris* infection......great advice...and a great link to check out your symptoms (a great place to start, worst case...a great place to find the cure, best case!)... Re: how to get loaches out

I know of at least one person who move the unit; rock (or wood) and all....but since your not transferring the item, I guess that wouldn't work.

Re: rectangular Java fern

That is really neat! My husband will be thrilled to hear about it. Java fern grows so well in our tanks, and a somewhat "already arranged" set up like that would be excellent in our tank at some point. Thanks!

Re: Tank tanked

Absolutely, we have a sterilizer in the tank. Seems that with constant water changes (Small), changed meds (to Para Guard), and possibly the addition of copper to deal with snails, have treated all the fish. Still using the Para Guard, as a couple of the rainbows still have SLIGHTLY "fuzzy" whitenes...
