Wild or Bred.

I was checking out the website of a Thai Exporter recently and they stated whether their loaches were wild-caught or bred. Wild-caught :- Morleti , Modesta , Lecontei , Horseface , Kuhlii , Helodes , Clown. Bred :- Histrionica , Almorhae , Striata , Kubotai , Rostrata , Dario , Sidthimunki. I had al...

Hi Erwin and Welcome, I see you live in Kalimantan and export live fish.
Your 30cm Clown Loach is a beautiful specimen - one we rarely see of that size. You must have a good pick of the fish, being in the business.
Cheers Graeme.

Welcome HS, You have been lurking far too long and should have joined in earlier. You have a nice selection of loaches and can only suggest a few friends for your Horseface.
Cheers Graeme.

Sorry, I was not saying Sids were extinct in the wild Mick, but they did come very close just like the Bala Shark and the Celestial Danio. There is many species around the world that are under immense pressure from over collecting for the trade and Clowns were heading that way also. I have a greater...

Biosecurity in EU and North America

Hi All, Whilst at Aquarama I went to a lecture on Biosecurity by Alex Ploeg (Secretary Ornamental Fish International) and he said the EU is very close to finalising legislation regarding the import of fish to prevent introduction of diseases, pathogens and invasive species to these countrys. Australi...

i have to agree with you Botiamaximus. Jacques explained to me that the catches of wild Clowns have been diminishing rather rapidly due to over collecting especially in Sumatra and that is why the Indonesian Government sought this breeding program. We dont want Clowns to go the same way as Sid's do ...

Clown Loaches Breeding Program

Hi all, I have just been to Aquarama which is a huge Fishtrade Expo held every two years in Singapore. I went in 2007 and although it was great there was not one loach there which was dissapointing but this time I was just blown-away to find a company that was breeding Clowns on a commercial basis f...

Sounds like a great idea Andy, all the Calcium and Omega oils would be good for any fish I would imagine.
Thanks for the tip. Cheers Graeme,

Yes Chocobo81 a tank that size is a good size to start with Clowns but you will probably be looking at a 6x2x2 before 2 years as Clowns do grow to over 5 or 6 inches in this time if fed and cared for correctly. Please do as much research as you can on the Forum before you get any Clowns as I consider...

My loaches just love Hikari Krill - they seem to like it more than Mysis. I only feed worms twice a week maximum - one frozen bloodworms and one live blackworms which they really enjoy and search the tank for the next hour or so just incase one escaped. They also just love live mosquito wrigglers as...

Hi Michael, My loaches were in a 3ft tank before thier recent upgrade to a 6x2x2. The tank and filter was 3ft from my pillow but the Ehiem 2026 was silent and never disturbed our sleep at all. As a rule-of-thumb I halve the manufacturers recomendation for max tank size - Ehiem rate the 2026 suitable...
