My experience with kubs has been that they grow at varying rates, depending on the individual fish. They're not super fast growers, but not super slow either.
If it were my tank I would go with more kubotais rather than mixing species and hoping that they will get along (though they probably would).

Re: Feeding my Yoyo Loaches
My experience has been that loaches will often take some time to acclimate themselves to the new tank, sometimes a matter of weeks. During that time, they may have little appetite, or may only be feeding here and there. They may need time to get used to the food as well the tank. The good news is th...

Re: Best Heating Solutions
I'm actually partial to Fluval E-Series heaters. While they can be a bit finicky at times, they work well overall. One of the biggest reasons I went with them is the built-in fish guard. With catfish and/or loaches in every tank, I wanted a heater that wouldn't injure the fish who seem to have an un...

Re: A few pics of our clowns
I've had as many as four of the featherfin synos in with my clowns with no trouble at all, at least not between the clowns and the synos. The catfish would constantly chase each other around, so I ended up separating them. The one large female that I left in the loach tank minds her own business.

Re: Should I use Chemicals to Remove Nitrite/Nitrate?
Water changes, proper feeding amounts, plants, and not overstocking the tank are the best ways to deal with nitrates. If you have any nitrite, your tank is not fully cycled and should not have fish in it yet. Look up "fishless cycle" on this web site.

Re: Dojo death I never saw coming be careful
I've had very good luck using short pieces of 2" PVC pipe and terra-cotta plant pots as fish caves. Make sure to remove all sharp edges with a file and clean them thoroughly (no soap!!!) before using.

Re: Losing Fish due to Ammonia but other parameters are fine
More likely that the ammonia spike was caused by the dead fish.
In your situation I would start looking at other possible factors, such as water quality issues, parasites, illness, and bacterial infection.

Re: Pimple on a Clown's mouth
It could be a cyst (pimple), but to me it looks more like a growth of some sort.
Definitely something to keep an eye on, but I'm not sure what you could do to treat it.

Re: Kuhli Loach Curled up Gasping for air
I don't know how much heat Khuliis can take, but keep in mind that their native habitat is the shallows of tropical rivers. I would be surprised if 87 F bothered them at all. I know for certain that certain botiine loaches and clowns will happily live at that temp (from my own experience), so I expe...

Re: Kuhli Loach Curled up Gasping for air
One of the nastier things that ich can do is infect the gills. Sounds like the ich infestation wasn't completely knocked out. In addition to continuing the salt treatment (carefully!), start raising the tank temps (slowly!). Leave them at 86F - 87F for several more weeks. This should eradicate any i...

Re: How to Feed in a River Tank?
I have all of my pumps on a power strip. I simply turn it off for a half-hour at feeding times.
Use a good quality power strip, the switches in the cheap ones don't last very long.

Is this your fella? http://www.loaches.com/species-index/yasuhikotakia-modesta Please note this quote: "The fish are highly territorial and a lot of in-fighting will be seen. During these interactions and at feeding times, this species may be very vocal with its clicking noises." My suggestion would...

Re: Sick fish with Clown Loaches
I really don't know which medication will work, as I don't know what illness your fish has (pictures might be helpful). I suspect that it's either a bacterial or fungal infection. There are a number of good medications on the market that treat those issues. Keep in mind, your catfish is a scaleless ...
