Belated intro

Hi, I 'm pretty new to the site.
I only recently started keeping hillstreams. Fascinating fish! I have G kweichowensis and G ctenocephalus at present. Here is one of my G kws.

I just used a spare space-heater type fan which I had lying around as an ad hoc solution (with the heat turned off of course :D ) It's about a foot high so I just laid it across the top of the tank with the hood off and it blasts air onto the surface from a range of about 4 inches. Plenty of evapora...

I have found that frozen pop bottles are not very efficient coolers. It might drop a 40 gal 1 degree C before the contents melt and you have to begin again.
Directing a fan onto the water surface is much more efficient. It can drop the temp from 30 to 25C in eight hours or so.

I noticed this as well during the recent heat. My G. kweichowensis and my G. ctenocephalus to a lesser extent went ape chasing one another round the tank.
Ambient temp was up to 39 but I kept the tank water well below 30 using a fan.
