Bushy/Bristle nose plecos are a great choice for algae eater for most tanks. Some people prefer the yellow/gold color morph of them although they tend to cost a few more dollars. I advise anyone to get some plants to suck up the nitrogen (aka pleco poop) in your water. If you are intimidated by aqua...

I recently bought one of these after much research. He'll be going into a 125 gallon tank with 14 feisty tiger loaches, 8 boisterous Arulius Barbs, a 5 inch pleco, and my largest SAE (5.5 inches or so). I've read reports of some people keeping these guys in community tanks successfully. And I've hea...

I have a well so my water isn't chlorinated. But I have two friends who siphon out their water then add water conditioner for the amount of water removed. Then refill.

Works fine.

It could be a Kubotai, there's a lot of variation with their markings.

I've seen cases where cories have lost their barbles before because of rough/sharp substrate. In the case I'm thinking of the substrate was flourite red. I don't know if this is your situation but it's something to consider. For loaches and cories you'll typically want to stick with a sandy or round...

TDS = Total Dissolved solids

Try getting some good sized rocks to place around the plants so your fish can't uproot them.

Or you could try floating plants like hornwort, or maybe mosses which don't root at all. I'm not familiar with Geophagus, they may eat the plants I'm mentioning.

40 ppm of nitrate is still too high. You want to get it under 20 ppm. I do 50% water changes on my tanks once a week and my fish are doing great. With more water changes your tank water becomes more and more like your water source in my opinion. The only worry is temperature shock so make sure the w...

All the cheezy decor will eventually go. I 3 pieces of wood which I'm going to move over from my 40 gallon once I add those fish in. Along with several lengths of bamboo. I've been hunting around the forests near my house looking for pieces to add. The stump which I posted a pic of earlier I was rea...

Substrate is in, water parameters checked. The tank is mostly clear but there is still some dust. I placed some fluval ploishing pads in my canister to help out. So I moved some fish in from the quarantine tanks. 2 S. Berdmorei 4 S. Hymenophysa The fish survived the night but they aren't eating yet ...

I love the bamboo. The tank it's pictured in is a 40 gallon long all that Bamboo has been in there for at least 6 months. All the Decore and fish there will be moving over to the 125 gallon. I have a few pieces of bamboo in other tanks which have lasted for two years. Just a month ago I had a batch ...

I put some substrate in the aquarium last night. Petco had some Activ-flora and Flora-max on sale for 9.99 a bag. So I figured what the hell and picked up 3 bags of the Activ-flor and 1 of the Flora-max. Both were smooth looking so they should be safe for barbles. Since I didn't glue many of the joi...

There's a guy on a little twisty back road in Maryland who has a huge stand of bamboo on his property right next to the road. I guess it's like a privacy thing. Over time large pieces of it die off and fall, I just go by and pick them up. I haven't been by in a year or so but i've heard a rumor that...
