clowns and chlorine
Hi everyone, I recently purchased a python to make the wc's easier and no doubt it is great for vacuuming and removing water, however, I recall reading somewhere on this forum that even small amounts of chlorine can kill clown loaches, so I assume it is not possible to use the python to add new wate...

It is obvious the homework I did prior to purchasing them was not accurate and the salesguy said two would be fine...of course he would say that, it's his job! ( no worries for him that problems could arise). Well I got them and I love them and I'll have to hope it dosen't become worse till I can up...

alpha clown loach biting
hi everyone, I have a 54g tank with 2 clown loaches , one common plec, 8 platys, 2 female dwarf blue gourami and 2 zebra danios. The clowns have been in the tank since Halloween, hence their names, Hocus and Pocus. The smaller of the two is the alpha and has been keeping the other one from coming ou...

Well I hope I did , and tomorrow is last treatment , but I have learned from the forums to make sure the problem is gone before I discontinue the treatments , so I will take a good , long look before I stop. I don't want my clowns and plec to catch anything! Still have to wait the 4 weeks again, but...

oops, named wrong medicine
Thanks for all the info , good to know ,but I gave the wrong name of med I am using . I am using a capful of Melafix each day,NOT Myacin. I went back to the store where these danios came from and saw the tank of danios ,about 1/3 ,or more had a red -looked like sore , just behind their eye , and the...

I did look at a few pics of this (not many out there) and didn't really look like it but many sites that describe it as loss of color sounds right. I guess I'll treat with antibiotic I have already (Mycin-spelling?), anyway , will I loose the beneficial bacteria in my filters if I medicate the q-tan...

oh no, think I got a problem
thanks for your replies about the canned shrimp..and yeah agree about holding the sauce  funny. However, this a.m. I noticed a few while spots on one of the clowns  and I fear it may be the dreaded ick. The spots are symmetrical , three on each side of his snout area , graduating upward...

clown treat question
hi all, first, let me thank you for past help as I am new to clown loaches and so very glad reading your older posts to find the '' clicking" noise is actually the clowns and NOT my glass breaking! I had been reading about many of your loaches clicking when excited or fav food and finally my two clo...

great rescue story
you did a great job -I doubt he would have lived much longer in the store tank and now he'll have a good life in your tank. Nothing like a great rescue story!

thqnks for feeding advice
just want to thank you all who responded to my concern about my clowns not eating veggies. It seems they love zucchini, especially the skin/rind as the plec never eats that part , I noticed the skin has been eaten also every day lately, and they get most of the zucchini flesh that is near the clip t...

Yep, seems to make alot of sense, they all want eachother's intended chow so I'll need to be crafty. The task will be up to my husband for a week as I gotta head south for a week(family thing :( ) and I have given him explicit instructions about the low lighting and other particulars due to the new ...

many thanks everyone , for the great tips! It seems this is a gradual thing and I will persevere --they WILL eat their veggies ..in their own time as it looks :) and I will just keep putting the veggies in for them. And yeah, waiting a day of fasting or light feeding ,,,sounds like a plan! Glad you ...

good point!
I did ask the store manager. He said he had been giving them high quality flakes, shrimp, and snails. He quarrantined a few for me for a few weeks as my q-tank is chugging along ,but not ready yet and said he dropped a handful of snails in the tank the previous night and all gone in am. They seem to...

getting clowns to eat fresh veggies?
Hi everyone, I have been reading the past posts to learn as much as possible about my clown loaches. I just read a recent reply from NancyD to another new member on how to get them interested in veggies. I have tried all the tricks she suggested, using garlic, sticking a vege tab in the squash...I h...
