Re: Need some stocking advice for my second loach tank
Unrelated to final stocking, but something interesting and unexpected happened that I thought I'd share. This tank will be used to grow out 3 pictus catfish until they're large enough to not be eaten by the archerfish in my 1st 473 liter. https://i.imgur.com/rESnVVd.jpg https://www.monsterfishkeeper...

Re: Fish-food economics
Bump! I realize this is old, but I thought I might add my own plans for fish food economics. Making Martin's recipe is not really an option for me, so I'm setting up my own mealworm farm (maybe even multiples). Costs nothing to maintain once they're set up (they can live on veggie scraps), and a wel...

22+ year old (and counting) pictus catfish
Saw this a while ago on MonsterFishKeepers, but never thought to make a thread on it here until now. Milingu has a pictus catfish bought in 2000 and still alive today. That makes it at least 22 years old (possibly quite a bit older depending on the size of purchase), which is not that far off from r...

Re: Need some stocking advice for my second loach tank
The Sicce pumps are the powerhead substitutes. The only sufficiently large powerheads I have found like Aquaclear have to be hooked to the tank rim (which they can't, the lid will have to go on there), whereas the Sicce pumps don't - they have a built in double magnet system allowing them to be stuc...

Re: Need some stocking advice for my second loach tank
Got some more questions, not on stocking but on flow. I was originally planning to have a Sicce XStream 8000 and a Sicce Voyager 4 running at the top of the water column, side by side, to provide a flowing top area for the sharks, barbs, and Botia*, but a calm bottom for the kuhli loaches and for ev...

Re: Archerfish?
As did I before I learned about freshwater species. Apparently only 2-3 of the 10 known species are brackish/euryhaline, the rest are freshwater. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archerfish That of course includes small scale archerfish, the subject of this thread: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smallsc...

Re: Archerfish?
I wonder this too... :) In a way, it would be great if they did. I think archerfish are an excellent alternative to cichlids for those who wish to mix cichlids and loaches (even though it is not a good mix). They have the same general 'perch' shape, enjoy the same water chemistry and flow, eat the ...

Re: Pink Tail Chalceus
Thank you for this info... I noted... You're welcome! Here's another thread on MonsterFishKeepers: https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/my-new-pink-tail.699480 Seems like C. macrolepidotus doesn't just not like its own kind, it dislikes them so much to the point of taking them out. The...

Archerfish?
Anyone else have them? I recently purchased a group of 6 small scale archers, somewhat inspired by Aquarium Co-Op.

Thanks for the compliments. It couldn't be more true how different every tank is.

Re: Target feeding dwarf chain loaches
Update. Looks like the chain loaches have caught on to the point that they go to the top of the water.
They don't have any problems competing with the tetras for food now. Whew.

Re: Clown Loaches now 27 years old
Hi Redshark, do you believe the 15cm male is genetically small for a male? I'm aware males are smaller than females, but I'm not sure whether 15cm compared to 20-30cm is the average size difference or a genetically small size difference.

Help me set up my custom clown loach tank.
Some plan changes have been made to my custom clown loach tank. I'd therefore like to run said plans by the other active members to get some advice (advice on the other tank was very useful and much appreciated!). Tank will be 2.44m (8' for US members) long, 76-91cm (30-36" for US members) wide, and...

Re: Need some stocking advice for my second loach tank
All that stuff on the clowns, age, etc, is just....wow. Really gives one something to think about. Sorry to hear it was so heartbreaking, and that your age is a prohibitive factor. I have heard of cheifkeith's water bridge tanks, yes. Never seen pictures but they did have me seriously considering se...

Re: Need some stocking advice for my second loach tank
Thank you for the good wishes Nancy. I suppose a good takeaway is that we all can have quite different standards, which is fine as long as they all work. By the way, since you mentioned your clown loaches, here's hoping you can get some more in the future and have them do well. I remember hearing yo...
