Three of mine were purchased at the same time and have had identical conditions. All eat well and are nice and plump, but they are all different sizes now (after 2 years). One is very small, but is not bullied or chased. So I think they just vary a lot.

I have mine with cardinal tetras, black neons, giant danios, black phantom tetras, and black ruby barbs. No problem whatsoever. I'd be worried about anything with threadfins, though. May look too much like worms!

Interesting - my bristlenose plecos eat the rind, while the loaches focus on the inside of zucchini!

Patience pays off with a clown loach

I have been away for a while - too much other stuff going on and really nothing new to write about. But with the onset of colder weather, sitting in front of the computer is an option again. So I thought I'd share a tale of how patient one has to be with fish sometimes. When I set up my 110 gal tank...

What's in the q-tank? If it's a bare tank they are probably preoccupied finding a place to hide. Give them somewhere to feel secure and they may come around.

I think it's time to coin a new expression (or perhaps it's an ancient one) - you guys are "going loachy"! Perhaps there are some advantages living in a place with poor selection!!

Check http://www.loaches.com/species-index and you'll see a number of potential candidates. I'm not sure I understand what you plan, though. One cichlid and one bichir and one loach? I would recommend you plan the tank for the main attraction (and on this site that would be loaches - go figure) and ...

Really interesting, and really beautiful fish. It sure sounds like you have a case. The first ray in the dorsal seem to differ slightly in shape (in addition to the bar width pointed out by Mick), but I guess some DNA comparisons are needed for this one.

I think the kub took exception to a striata invading a favourite hangout. The striatas like to hang out under some driftwood, while the kubs often like to hang on semi-vertical surfaces, like driftwood. It only happened once - they seemed to settle their differences and I haven't seen it again. The ...

I have 10 of each. The striata appear dominant, but I've seen them "fight" once. The kub was greying out, but appeared to be the aggressor. My experience is that they are fine together.

The problem is probably more that kuhlis and Schistura's require vastly different conditions to thrive. Schisturas like high water flow, kuhlis don't. Check the specs in the LOL species list.
