Those plastic ones seem pretty tough
Or, decorate your tank with other materials and buy yourself a tank dedicated to plants, as I have done!

Re: Filter Recommendation
If you like the sand then keep it. You can have good filtration and sand.
I have two tanks with sand (for catfish) and believe it is a good substrate.
I have internal filters, one at each end for these tanks. The sand always stays clean. I have a good flow.

Re: Growth rate experience for Clown loaches
It took mine about 10 years to increase from 3.5cm to 15cm.
Females are now 20cm, males 15cm - that's 17 years later!
I found their growth slow, but the fish very sturdy indeed with no ailments.

Re: Filter Recommendation
My friend's external filter leaked and she had to find alternative accomodation while hers was dried out. I also have a friend online whose tank emptied onto the carpet last year via the external filter with the loss of all her fish. As this would be a disaster for my family and I, I have progressed...

Re: Out and about clowns
Very enjoyable video thanks. With a lovely shoal of young Clowns and lots more going on too. However, I would be interested to know what you think of the following. I was advised that the "Roseline Sharks" which are locally named "Dennison's Barbs" require a cooler temperature than Clown Loaches so ...

But, where are the loaches?
And learn to look after your back (new ones will be expensive when they invent them ). I have sympathy there being an old guy!

Re: sick loaches, HELP!!
What? No replies yet to this emergency?! I have little idea of what it could be as the only dysfunction I have experienced with my Loaches was at the very beginning as they came with whitespot that was easily cured. A stab in the dark - I have a hunch that you may have an electrical problem with you...

Well done (so far...).
What an astonishing turn around!
What awful conditions must he have been in before (accepting your sister is unwell and perhaps unable to give consistent care)?

Re: Sick Clown Loach
It might be worth persisting with him in the decent water conditions in the hope he will recover. I believe in providing the best possible water and relying on the natural immune system - I do not use chemical treatments. This has worked for me once despite all seeming lost for a long time. My feeli...

Re: PLEASE HELP MY SICK LOACHES
Good luck helping your loaches. If there is a dead fish in the other log this would explain the behaviour as one loach would have to find another home. Hopefully not but it has happened to me in the past. It would seem to me to be a good idea to do everything possible to improve the water quality. T...

Re: Sand as a substrate.
I changed my gravel in two stages a week apart last year.
It is mentioned in my thread in which I show the transformation in the colours of the fish:

Re: How Fast Do Clowns Grow?
Glad you liked my Loaches. I love seeing other people's pictures too. Luckily it's easier to share information now so we have a better idea of what our Loaches like. Information was very difficult to come by when I started with mine so I had to go on instinct. As they are living things I've always p...

Re: How Fast Do Clowns Grow?
I'd say they grow very slowly compared to most other fish I've kept. But what do I know, I've only been keeping them for 18 years? Varied diet, pristine water, medium tank of 90 gallon, 8 inches of steady growth in 18 years and still growing. Never had disease since they were cured of Whitespot on p...

Re: Need help ASAP! Bullying
You can still have a bully in a large shoal. Aggression may be spread out but it may still be a problem. I wouldn't like to see it in my aquarium.
